Bogus you say? Fluticasone is already generic, correct? Salmeterol was introduced before fluticasone. You do the math.

May 2010 expiration for Advair. If Advair was going off patent next week our stock price would be around 20.

Go to the FDA web site and you'll see that the last patent on Advair runs until 2011 or 2012. While it is true that one of the patents does expire in '08, the product is protected until the last patent expires. All of these rumors about Advair going generic this month are baseless.

There is actually some truth to this. The combination FP/salmeterol compound goes generic 2008, but the DISKUS device still enjoys patent protection until 201X as mentioned above. Generic Advair is currently marketed as "Seroflo Multi-Haler(TM)"

This doesn't stop generic manufacturers from putting the combo in an imitation device (such as the CIPLA's Multi-Haler or even an MDI).

Check it out at http://www.cipladoc.com/therapeutic/imgs/multihaler.jpg

Looks familiar doesn't it? Open, click, inhale.

Go ahead.

Google "Seroflo"

Advair is just so full of sh*t. You guys are also so full of sh*t. Symbicort is the best one out there and you know it. Today, I saw the Advair rep and told him to his face to "Go crawl into his little cave 'cuz he's full of sh*t and so is the contents of his bag. Bag of sh*t.

WOW YOU NAILED IT, everyone in the field and home office was taken by surprise, the legal team is tearing their hair out. Generic Advair is now in every Pharmacy. It was not supposed to go off patent until 2011 but due to your diligence in googling the words Advair and Patent you were able to get the scoop on the whole world. Even the markets were surprised, the stock went up today. Kudos to you.

I'm not involved in the business end of this; I am a senior citizen who is required to use Advair and is screwed by being the donut-hole. I bought Cipla's Seroflo through a Canadian pharmacy but haven't tried it yet as I'm still hitting my pulmonologist up for samples. Fortuitously, I'm doing pulmonary therapy in the same building in which his office is located. I was surprised to find that he owns the building. I also get my generic Spiriva from abroad. This is Cipla's Tiova Rotacaps with a handy Rotahaler. It annoys me that my physician's office staff seems to begrudge me the samples. They're making it embarrassing for me to ask.

Donut-hole program is in place to get you your gsk meds. Have your doctor explain it to you so that you would not have to go online and buy God knows what. That is if your doctor will see reps to be educated about the program.

I hope you stopped buying those cigarettes which likely got you into this place to begin with, or did you just switch from Marlboros to a cheaper generic Turkish version?

Are you kidding me with this? We're trying to discuss medication and you are trash talking? Grow up already, and while you're at it find some professionalism. Or a hobby if this a joke. In response to this posting above and a few childish others, I can't believe some of these rude, obnoxious and uninformed people blogging here. I found this site when trying to find out when the patent expires on Advair. I AM a senior citizen who has paid more than my share of taxes all my life and live on $1500.00 a month and when I hit the medicare gap, buying Advair in the states costs me almost $300.00 at Walmart. It's food or breathing until I found my pharmacist in Canada who've I've known for years sells the brand for $80 and the generic (which is approved in 4 countries as advanced as ours) for half that. It's the US drug companies and their lobbyists who are ripping off all American's, not just seniors like me who have worked hard all their lives ... sometimes two and three jobs just to survive. That isn't enough to be insulted and financially raped by the US drug company's....I have to read rude blogs from arrogance, militant creeps like the one above, is just too much. Just wait until you're senior citizen on very limited income!! Hope you see that day and regret your remarks here. Some of us never smoked, but have severe asthma and allergies and how dare you assume and more importantly accuse someone you don't know their circumstances. Have some respect for people who are just trying to get informed. Obviously the two postings I pasted above don't have any for anyone.

If you are living on $1500 per month you will qualify for all of your GSK meds to be covered for free. While I agree that the other posters are ignorant you are complaining that drug companies are ripping you off. In reality, they have developed a medicine that allows you to breathe and GSK has even agreed to pay for any senior citizen in the doughnut hole on the income you describe. So actually you're over-paying by $80.

The days of financial strength at GSK are coming to an end, just as Pfizer loses lipitor, GSK losing advair is going to require extreme changes in its business model. You can rest assured that 2-3 selling forces will be laid off at a minimum.

The diskus device is the only thing patented, and let's get real candid. Cash is king. If Cipla can make a DPI that is 70% the price, Advair will have 50% loss in sales in 1 year..... 6 billion to 3billion.... next year down to 1-2 billion.... it's lights out.

Don't think for a minute that GSK would "keep you in the know". They will hold out till the last minute for the real truth. The reality is Advair is a great first in class product but the newer agents and generic alternatives are going to destroy it's prominence especially with the government health plan taking shape.

When taxpayers are footing the bill for medicines for all americans..... you can bet it will not be advair that will be on the formulary. Unless you pay cash... and to be candid priced so high it's around 8-10 dollars a day. "Caring about patients..... mmm hmm....." Yep I buy that bigtime. Fools we are not.

the generic threat falls in line with the upcoming asmanex/foradil combo. unlike az, schering(merck) has established relationships with specialists and asmanex is a way better drug than budesinide. that would have been a much tougher sell. Isn't it ironic that we now promote flovent (as we always should have) considering the nih guidelines.

Post #28 hit it on the nose. New business model being worked on as we speak. We will go the same route as Merck and Pfizer, scaling down to 2-3 person territories carrying all products. GSK would be wise to manufacture a generic version of Advair in preparation for patent expiration. Generic companies will not be able to duplicate delivery device, but docs will write generic advair hand over fist due to cost savings and could care less about what device the product is in. Get ready for major layoffs. They will be implemented before Advair goes generic.

Didn't Advair have 100% of the market before Symbicort? If Advair -and you- are so great, shouldn't it continue to have 100% of the market?? If my math serves me correctly, going from 100 to 87 means you are LOSING market share. Dumbass! And the device is no good for someone who suffers severe astham/copd. try getting THEM to inhale a powder, or firgure out how to use it!

Generic Advair, lets see Flovent has been generic for 4 years now and no generic, I wonder why? They can't make it. If you can't make a generic Flovent good luck making generic advair. As far as Cipla having a generic advair already, it is not approved by any federal drug agency anywhere in the world. It is a pirate copy which will not meet specs in the US and they will never file for it either. Advair may lose it's patent in late 2010 or early 2011 but it will take a generic house like Teva atleast another 2 years at the earliest to make a generic. Flonase was generic for almost two years before a generic hit the market and it is way less complex to manufacture.

"Device" is the word used in the original above post- jackass. Simply using YOUR language. But keep that mentality! No wonder Symbicort is taking market share.

I bet you are really clinically based. I have yet to meet a GSK rep selling advair that knows how to actually compare products. You might be shocked if you ever read the latest COPD studies GSK has done in COPD. Doesn't look so good there Johnny Boy!

Times have changed. Advair is a declining product that only offers GSK time to try and survive. Raise the prices to offset loss of sales / reduce sample quantities is just biting your nose off. You chose to make a hospital size sample is only screwing your real business for the sake of small hospital volume. I think your MBA people from Duke are flunkies who don't get it. You saved money on samples but you lost the war out in the field. Lights out!

Hmmm, so the Cipla generic advair is not approved by ANY FDA anywhere eh? If memory serves me correctly, it is apporoved by the Inda FDA, the same folks who approve the GSK-India version of Advair, Seretide. If you are going to post, why not post the truth instead of BS.
