The DM's will get the "official" list on the 17th in the afternoon and have conference calls with the directors to review the "marching orders" for the next few months.

Everyone will be told to stay home on the 18th and your DM will call you at some part of the day. Instructions will be to call those who are to be cut first then those who will stay in the afternoon. Territory overlap and territory potential will be the deciding factors. They are also taking a look at those reps with high base pay to see it they could be redeployed into more cost saving positions.

People this is SERIOUS STUFF!

any news on severance packages?

Fuck it I am going to stay home till then! No use busting my ass for the next week if they show no dedication to the field.

Oh well... at least I can put this to rest on the 19th.

RD's should have their list on the 12th. They will review/approve by the 15th. lists go to DM's on the 17th. Calls on the 18th.

Why are u so sure this info is wrong? It actually seems to make sense. although I'm not sure what they might offer higher paid reps.

i actually heard this and know this as well. around 30% cuts through out all of pc. Its the truth and its sad to say. look at your book regarding severence and your years of service. you will get until the end of the year- nov or dec before your actual severence kicks in, very similar to vir/onc. at the earliest and with the least amount of experience you'll get 15 weeks. great people/reps at schering just backwards philosophy from upper management- piss poor at rolling things out.

Anyone who has been in the industry thru layoffs knows that they always tell you to wait by your phone on the day of the layoff, if you get a call from a DM you have a job with the organization. If HR calls you, you don't. DMs find out the 15th, if your current DM has a position he/she will contact those staying, if not, your new DM will. No big deal. If you are separated, or if you think you will be, you should already be looking for a job!! You can get paid by 2 companies, and move on to another train wreck of a company. Schering has been good to me and my family for the last 12 years, but honestly, I am ready for a change. I think many people feel the same. Good luck to all!

I have a question...When people are called on the 18th -lets say they find out that they will be layed off. Are they layed off that day meaning on the 19th they dont work anymore or they are expected in order to receive their severence pay until Nov 19th? Somebody told me this but I find it hard to believe that you would be let go and HAD to stay working for 2 more months...

if you are let go on the 18th, you are on payroll until 11/19, and keep company car, do not work anymore, and pay for your own gas, than you get 16 weeks of severance pay which will run until mid March

Minimum of 17 weeks severance.

Will our managers be able to share with us if they are laid off or not on that Monday the 15th? Anybody know?

They will read you a legal statement requesting you do not talk to anyone about your employment. DM's will not call you or take a call from you if they are laid off. It's not a basis for taking away severence if they do, they just don't want a bunch of talk. Basically, that's how you know if they've been let go.

ive been through layoffs before and my call didnt come from HR. the company had so many people being let go, HR couldnt handle it all and I got my call from some random DM that I didnt even know (my manager had left the company a few months prior so that may have had something to do with it). anyway, you will get your call from whomever. there is no use in speculating at this point. its gonna happen. im just trying to get rid of as many samples as possible so I will have less to count when they close me out, if in fact i am let go. just get your ducks in a row from an admin standpoint so there is less to do and you will have more time to look for a job.

I heard the 18th from my manager. I actually used www.medmarketconnect.com to blast my resume out to recruiters and get a head start on this. I'm going to try to get into medical sales hopefully.

I don't know if you have any sales background but you're a PC rep in a POD and you want to be a medical sales rep? Good luck, no way. They won't even interview you. Also, do you call sending your resume out 2 weeks before the date getting a "head start." Your so far behind you don't understand. sorry for the honesty Bud.

So, my best friend from college is the vp of sales at a medical device company, and I have been in pharma for the last 20 plus years, and you think I am not going to get a job because I worked in pods?

Good for you. I have a friend that made the transition from pharma to med device a last year and he loves it. He is making about 75k more per year and actually feels good about what he is doing out there on a daily basis.

Couldn't be more true about this idiot. I've got a friend that is a device manager who will say he won't interview pharma reps but has hired 2. Guess what? He is using that statement as an objection to see what the rep is made of. If you can't get by that initial smoke screen how are you going to get past the gate keeper to get into the surgery center with one of your top surgeons? GOOD Pharma reps get hired all the time into medical device sales. Now get off your ass and start networking.

I'm not saying this to gloat but to prove a point that sharp pharmaceutical reps can get interviews in medical sales if they know how to sell. It also helps if you sold a product or service in b2b prior to getting into pharmaceutical sales. I just got an interview set up with Boston Scientific as a result using medmarketconnect.com service earlier this month. Good luck to you out there and know that going from pharma to med device sales happens all the time. Wish me luck.
