Hang on to your hats, folks. Just found out in a meeting that the Big News concerning the restructuring is coming no later than November 14th. Plans for the sales forces are being finalized based upon the jobs filled in vaccines, but rest assured people, this will be ARMAGEDDON! The GOOD OLD DAYS of "three sites, same BS" will be a distant memory soon. Hope you have been a very good boy or girl over the past three years, 'cuz if not, there is gonna be one helluva lump of coal in your stocking this Holiday Season!

I hope they wait a little longer. My entire pod has a policy now that since the goals are impossible anyway, we are each only working 2 hours a day just to grab a couple of sigs. We are hoping to continue this through the holiday season. The company has clearly waited so long tell us anything in hopes that we are all busting our ass to try and save our jobs. This thinking is, as usual, false. Our team is actively tanking our numbers in hopes of setting the bar so low, that once we come out of this we just start working again and look like heros. Sure one or two of us might get cut, but that decision has already been made and it no longer matters what we do now. This is just our little way of punishing GSK for their lack of transparency.

you and your "pod" are what is wrong with this industry. (real reps don't work in pods) they carry their own market share in specialty. All you pods are a bunch of slackers who have no accountability for their own numbers.

I am in this pod and totally agree with you. However, our management refuses to change the system. The only way to change the system is make it clear to them that it doesn't work. This is one of the reasons we are slacking now. The only thing that will force managements hand is poor performance.

This person wasn't in any meeting and doesn't know anything. Everybody just makes stuff up on this board. December 1st is when announcement will be made. Just a re-shuffling, no actual layoffs. However there will be a thinning of the herd as low performers are pushed out. Wait, maybe I just made all of that up. I guess we will have to wait and see. Working for this company is at least entertaining. Everytime management does something its like watching a car wreck you don't want to see but just can't look away!

Yep. There are a few pharma's out there now that are pairing down and going to 3 reps max to a territory in PC and they are account based so you have responsibility for one account (i.e. hospital system, group etc) so even though you have counterparts they will never be in the same offices as you. You get to form your own relationships with docs and key thought leaders in your territory, getting back to real ownership.

You are right on one point. I was most certainly NOT in the meeting, but the person who was used the word that is the freakin' title of this thread. I could care less whether you believe me or not, doesn't really matter in the long run. All I am saying is that I hope everyone's shit is together come that week, because it is all coming down then! To those of you who have been partying the last three years, keep on doing whatever the hell it was you were doing. But have the resumes at the ready......

If you really want to know find a friend in IT and see when they have been told no vacation time. The first warning will be when computers get locked out of the system.

The armageddon scenario doesn't even include the possibility of Avandia being pulled from the market. If that were to happen, a number in excess of 2000 field sales positions including DSMs, RVPs, and MDMs could be let go.

Some kind of training session for new hires... Imagine that. You've been just hired, the CEO comes in, welcomes you and says, "guess what, troops, we're going to lay off hundreds of your peers, and you may be next. So sell or your ass is grass".

Andrew Witty has not been down in RTP at all the last 3 weeks. You are all being duped. There will not be layoffs, just restructuring. We are already down enough people. Some people will be shuffled into new territories, but headcount is where we want it.

There was no training class down in RTP and Witty has not been in RTP for a while. People are just trying to stir things up. The rumor mill here is making things sound 10 times worse than they are.

He WAS there on Monday AND he DID speak to those who were in training. They are the very last class scheduled to go through before the hiring freeze occured.

He was not there and did not speak to this fictional training class. You did not here him speak. Stop passing along all of these rumors. The worry of layoffs is affecting real people with actual families, and it is not necessary! Just a reorg, but NO LAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!! We are at the proper headcount!!!!!! Do you honestly think that if they were going to cut people, they would have waited this long. THEY ARE NOT THAT STUPID! Its already to late to get it on this years books, and managing costs to manipulate the financials is what the executive team's job is. JP was a total failure at it which is why he was run out. Do you actually think AW did not learn from JP's mistakes. Any change would have been finalized and all affected people notified before November 1st. Yet here we are at Nov 1st with no announcement, or layoffs. So please just calm down, enjoy your lives, and enjoy the holiday season. Hey Poster #22, I was sitting in the RTP auditorium last week in Cycle 2 NRT and Witty was there in person on Monday afternoon. He did in fact state that restructuring was going to take place sooner than later and that he plans to merge Philly and RTP. Believe what you want, if I were you I would dust off your resume because from what I heard, sounds like cuts will be happening by end 4Q. You are delusional if you don't think this is going to happen. How do you think new hires felt at last week of training hearing that we might not have jobs by year's end? Witty said that he cannot stand the thought of 5-6 reps with the same product calling on customers. He is cleaning house.

I also work down in RTP, in sales training actually! I'm sorry to say that Witty was not here. For those of you putting your hopes into something happening soon because of this thread will be disapointed. There were supposed to be meetings with all the RVPs and senior management down here Friday October 24 but they were cancelled. Everything is being delayed. Not sure why, but it is a fact.

It is completely obvious that Witty was in RTP for these meetings, and that something will happen soon. Don't worry about this guy, he is in medical devices and has a Benz and a large, recession-proof 401K.

There was a POC meeting in RTP last week and yes AW was there.

Thank you for being a person with a little intelligence. Of course I know that Witty was in RTP last week and you are right that I was just trying to get a rise out of people. Can you blame me? Witty was in RTP (Glaxo Corporate) and did speak to the retrained reps in last week. I have spoken with one particular co-worker and the worst part was that those in the group who brought up layoffs were escorted out of the conference meeting and their managers were contacted for being inappropriate with the asking of layoffs.

Witty is a known hacker across the pond, when Viebacher left, the writing was on the wall. The company is fat and has no business operating 2 corporate offices anymore. You want to save a billion dollars a year, get out of Philly. RTP is paid for and a lot cheaper for its employees to live and also commute. Mergers take time and it appears with Avandia's nightmare and the 40% of the sales of our company relying on Advair which goes generic in about 2 years, the company has a great excuse to trim the easiest cost driver, people. Obama's likely election victory will only speed up the process, I guess we will let this new redistribution of weath apply to the poor souls who lose their jobs.
