Kevin never should have been the CEO but Gordon said so. All these years, it's been a dreary road. The shares are now less than when he took over in 2000.

If it's a rumor, I like it. May it be fact, asap!

If this turns out to be true, it will be the best news for Amgen since the Epogen and Neupogen approvals.

Let's hope the damage he has been responsible for can be undone.

To the church goers, make sure you light a candle. With enough light from the assembly, it could illuminate the problem. Nothing else has.

KS leave? How could we survive without the nautical metaphors to guide us? Who else would have the wisdom to spend millions of shareholders' money to sponsor a bike race where EPO is used by all the drug cheats? Brilliant decision making. Who else would have the foresight to gear up with 800 sales reps for a product which has a wee bit of a delay? Not to mention the fantastic management required to create an atmosphere where key FDA folks despise us? How could we do without that? No, KS is the man to guide us through these rough seas.

He wasn't even the right man to guide us when things were good.

    The problem is the BOD

They actualy get one of the largest (37K) expense accounts in the industry on top of a
    personal membership account of $320K

The board of diectors is paid to leave things alone so they can make free money.

Actually, compensation for each director varies based on factors including the number of committees a member sits, whether the member is chair of a committee and perks. Director compensation is public information. See the 2009 proxy statement posted on the SEC's website, as well as the company's website.

It all makes me VERY ill to know these board members are paid huge sums of money in exchange for some brown nosing and lots of rubber stamps.

Don't look for healing for a long time. If these people had the gonads to stand up to Kevin, this stuff we are in, would not have happened.

That includes the one trick pony, aka, Immunex, which we shall be in debt until hell freezes over (that's 17 billion bucks for the deal and included was a $4.50 (cash) per share payout). Moving on to his next buy, was Abgenix known for its drug, Vectibix, also a drug that was supposed to be a blockbuster, now known as pocket change.

Well, prayers apparently don't help, so how about something on earth such as the board (in a fit of sanity) firing him or maybe, a nice retirement announcement?

The capper, being turned down on Prolia. That one will cost us BIG, while Amgen and the FDA hold hands and try and make up. They review and we spend, spend and spend more. Sorry, no more beef, just horse meat.

Amgen Chairman, President and CEO Kevin Sharer
Even while attending the U.S. Naval Academy in the early 1970s, Kevin Sharer knew he wanted to be a leader, not a follower. To that end, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in aeronautical engineering, and oversaw construction and crew training of a nuclear "fast-attack" submarine. By the time he left the Navy in 1978, he had risen to the rank of lieutenant commander.

For his next challenge, Sharer set his sights on the corporate world. After stints at management consulting firm McKinsey & Company and AT&T -- during which he earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburg -- Sharer took a job in corporate development at General Electric in 1984. He was eventually offered a chance to lead GE's jet engine division, but he passed, deciding that the job was too low-profile for his career goals.

Sharer returned briefly to MCI before joining Amgen in 1992 as president and chief operating officer. It was at the biotech company that Sharer clearly saw the potential to match his ambitions. In May 2000, Sharer was named CEO of Amgen, and he set out to transform Amgen into a major player in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, on par with industry giants like Johnson & Johnson. During his time at the helm, revenue has grown from $4 billion to more than $14 billion. Around Amgen's campus-like headquarters in Thousand Oaks, Calif., Sharer is known as a straight-talking, efficient and confident leader.

Sharer was born and raised in Iowa and now lives in Southern California with his wife, Carol. He has five children
