Don't forget...we still have like 350 CSO's who don't know their fate yet either. They find out in another week to two weeks so these cuts could get worse still.

Re: 1200 total jobs cut today
I thought it was suppose to be closer to 2000, so 1200 doesn't seem as bad as I thought. Wasn't there a total of 6000 reps before today? If you think about what's coming with patent expirations for Plavix and Avapro looming, not to mention the way things are going in this industry and poor access in physician's office, you have to admit the layoff makes sense. It sucks and these drug companies could have done so many things differently, but it does make sense. You have to admit that.

Re: 1200 total jobs cut today
It could have been much worse. I think they are positioning to cut lowest performers next year, then hopefully be positioned for any new products or joint ventures. It appears from what I know, that many good reps were saved and unfortunately, a few were lost. Some did get screwed, but this is inevitable. The biggest part of any job for the forseeable future is keeping the resume and accomplishments up to date and networking with recruiters and colleagues. Congrats to all that stayed on, as I think that this company is moving in the right direction toward sustainability. How many of us are included in that future is another question. Sincere well wishes and future success to colleagues that will no longer be a part of SA. Knowledgeable, hardworking, professionals that interview well, will be in positions before their severence is spent. The worst is over. Now the rest of our collective lives begin. Best of luck and good health to you and your families.

Re: 1200 total jobs cut today
any amount to cut is bad, it hurts.
to the minority that were not working it's a way to cut dead wood.
but the rest it is just sad, if iyou put it into perspective it is like 24 reps per state. however we now that some more populous states got hit harder California vs. Vermont.
what does that mean to aversize towns the size of 400,000 ? probably 2-3 reps. I know in my town they had already cut back on SA reps a few months back that were not performing. Also they never filled any positions in the last 4-6 months so that helped to cushion the blow. I heard SA is going to open those positions up to the people who were displaced and give them the option of moving or interviewing for other jobs. To some people it isn't feasible to others it might work out.

this is correct and they offered 1,300 tenured reps the opportunity to retire early I heard that everyone took it.

Next cut, and we'll be done to the original Aventis. Boy, what a merger this turned out to be.

Agree with number 4. My brag book is all spiffed up. Got a new suit and I'm ready to hit the interview trail running. With severance + new job I expect to be double dipping within 2 months.

Sounds great. One problem: most companies will not be hiring, or even interviewing. from now until mid January. Take a deep breath, son....

Re: 1200 total jobs cut today
#12 Funny you make he comment about paying us a finder's fee during the great scale up days. You're exactly correct. One of my close friends / PODmates I helped get hired and was paid the $3,000 fee was let go on 11/30 which made me think about that yesterday. What a loss to sa! Now I'm hearing Lilly and AZ have openings in my area; both of which just had layoffs and Lilly's will be ongoing through 2011 until they layoff approximately 5,500 according to FirstWord earlier this fall. What's up with that??? It's obvious these companies are merely dumping higher salaried reps and rehiring others fo $20,000-$30,000 less per year...all to keep the investers happy. Just a sign of more to come and sa here is right in line with the rest of big pharma. And we are being so transparent with our associates. RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

You my friend are both in denial and a smartass with your comments here! Just because you hung on thus far doesn't make you some sort of hero here at sa. I've got news for you buddy, sa will take you down as well before this head chopping venture of theirs is over. You comment sa is moving in the right direction. What a joke. This company has nothing but old dinosaur products getting ready to plunge off into the generic world in the not to distant future. I'd say you are very stupid and in denial there, Fred. Don't get to comfee sitting back in your company car cruising around thinking you're something special to still be hanging on...your days are numbered too. Now go shut that big hole in your head and get to work and make sa some money...

Re: 1200 total jobs cut today
Most reps I know were tenured, highly paid reps who worked hard and were set up with "does not meet expectations" for the past few years. Don't fool youselves sa is not different than any other company. Letting go of higher paid and hire the lower paid contract rep. If you got a does not meets this year, you had better start looking.
