Corny email today--"elimination of salary increases in 2010 and
eliminating the future deferral of vacation time into the next year".
So, does this mean we do not, after all, get the big 2% increase they confirmed in Dallas? Or does this pertain to increases we would actually receive in 2011?

Re: Corny email today--"elimination of salary increases in 2010 and
This is the salary increase we were promised for this year. So April 1, your check will look the same as it did on March 1. our group had a telecon. All of this is supposedly based on health care reform that is up in the air. Our meeting was last week. They showed how awesome our pipeline was, how high we were rated, how great the future was. They they told us 2%. Now they say nothing! Not sure what the deferral of vacation means and how they save money on that.
They got us by the balls. Where else are you going to go? Work hard because the harder you work the more you ... wait, never mind, we all get the same.

Re: Corny email today--"elimination of salary increases in 2010 and
No raises at all. None.
0% raises, but hefty bonuses based on 2009 performance. So the employees take the hit, but the executives make out like bandits, as the stock price continues to rise.
Why defer vacation time? Thats weird. I wonder if its because its a liability on the books, and Corny is juicing the company for some type of merger or something. Or maybe just to squeeze every last penny before his retirement?

I have been trying to tell you that Jimbo is taking every penny possible to the bottom line earnings. Why? Because the multiple that BMS is worth will increase for every penny he can squeeze out.
Well placed sources at 345 Park confirm he will merge the company before leaving. This will allow him to exit with untold millions to add to his Guidant millions. Greed.

Re: Corny email today--"elimination of salary increases in 2010 and
Yes, it's true - not even a 2% raise this April. You can still bank vacation, but not defer it.
Poorly worded and vague communication from Corny that demonstrates how totally clueless he is to the sales force. He talks about executive bonuses, not understanding that the salespeople don't get those. Our bonus is fixed due to the forced ranking!
The question is if we are sitting on $10B in cash, why cancel measley 2% raises and stop vacation deferment? What are they setting up the company for?

Re: Corny email today--"elimination of salary increases in 2010 and
Funny because in 2009 we were told that although sales were great, there just wasn't enough to give more than a 2% increase. So we kept numbers good for 2009 and now no increase. Look at the link below and see what the top execs got in 2008- a 72% increase in total pay from 2007. We don't get stock, we don't even have a company stock plan that let's us buy the stock like other companies do, and when did the target bonus for reps ever get changed? I heard at our meeting that other companies are doing this to, but what they don't get is other companies are also asking people to make some sacrifices and if the sales numbers come in then the sales people will get the reward. We have no reward.

0% raise for 2010 gives you a flat salary rate across the company, helps zero in on a true value of the company for merger or sale, no salary increases to figure in.
You really think Jimbo is so great?
Read interivew with Boston Consulting Group a while back.
http://leadership.bcg.com/americas/cornelius.aspx
Also don't forget as you read his "ethics" statements, the DOJ just settled with Boston Scientific (who bought Guidant) for Guidant paying kickbacks to docs for putting in Guidant devices.
Who was CEO of Guidant while that was going on? Jimbo.

Stay focused on developing a " Great Performance Connections". Remember to document everything you do "good" throughout the year. If you do these correctly and have good sales performance and behaviors, guess what you get..........."0". That's O% merit increases for everyone. might be right, make people take the vacation time so that the company doesn't have to fork over any money if/when "separations" begin... hmmm, might be right about things to come.

Agreed, the end is near for many...Obviously, the slow start of Onglyza spells the doom of AT LEAST half of PCP reps. Specialty is tied to Plavix ,so who knows but tic, tic, tic on that one. Apixiban is getting week reviews, dapagilfoxin too far away.....We will be half our number by fall......the 0 merit switcharoo punctuates some form of my above summation!

I am not in sales. I work in home office. Please do not rip me a new one for this. None of us are getting a pay increase and we are all in the same boat.
Other parent unemployed and I work to make rent. Not mortgage, rent. We are raising our kids in an apartment because we cannot afford a house and the loss of his job has hurt alot.
I work hard. I am college-educated. I have a lot of knowledge of the industry and our products and the disease states from our work here. I have explained to my friends why the cost of drugs is so high, development, clinical trials all cost money. I put in extra time when it has been needed though it earns me nothing. I have educated my bosses on things I know about that they don't. I have worked for years at this company and not only did I need my paltry raise. I EARNED it.
So did you. And if Cornelius doesn't get one it does not hurt him. He will still drive an $80,000 car while I drive a 2002 Toyota. I earned my raise and I have done my job. I will not continue to work for a company that literally takes food out of my children's mouths and screws the very people who keep the numbers high. If I get one more email about how well we are doing I will scream. Evidently we are not doing well enough to pay us for it.

If I knew who you were, I'd have you fired. I will most likely only make $20 million this year in total comp, but I deserve triple that for saving this POS company. Your kids can eat dirt, I'm in charge here and I say no fucking raise for anyone, but if you don't perform and stay positive we'll fire your ass!

Even with call monitoring, it is easy to make this job part time so you can build another income source on the side.

Apparently you idiots don't read post on other company boards. Most companies are reducing sales forces. That means that those reps not only don't get a pay raise but they will have no income. If, as some of you say, that you will make up the loss by working less or having a business on the side, do that and when your lay off comes, you won't be whinning about not getting a pay raise, you will be screaming because you are out of a job. You think that you can hop from company to company to keep your standard of living? Think again. Most of the jobs won't exist and you will be faced with the reality of the fact that You will have to work 40 to 60 hours per week just to make ends meet. Grow up and cut back on your spending!

I agree with the last statement for sure, so here are some other common sense thoughts that we all forget because we have been living high on the hog for so long:
live below your means
pay off debts
have enough money saved to pay for many months of living expenses
nobody ever promised any of us a higher income every year of our lives
it is easier to find a new job while you still have one
start a second income source small and on the side while you are still working
get over the victim attitude and be a little thankful for what you have
don't come across as a whiner to your boss
take ownership of your next career move
nobody ever said life is fair, so stop whining!
Oh yeh, and lastly - stop whining!

While it is true that the sales force sells the product, ask youself, if I leave tomorrow will this company be able to quickly replace me? Of course they will. Try to find a job outside pharma making what you do now or even what your starting salary was. If you are such a great sales rep, why are you worried about getting a raise, you could go anywhere on straight commission and make more but you would have to work long hours which you probably don't now. By the way, do you have a grand parent or parent who is trying to live on social security? They don't get a cost of living increase anymore. Compare your salary to what they get and then stop whinning. The sales force does sell the products that provide the profits for your company but any sales force can be replaced at any time with young bright go getters. Lots of people fresh out of college would be willing to take your job right now because they haven't been able to find a job of anykind much less one that pays what you are making. Your company does not owe you a raise, a bonus, paid health care and vacation day accrual. They don't even have to give you a 401K match if they don't want to. Your next move should be to call your management and complain about not getting a raise. I am sure they will be happy to make sure you don't even get a pay check.

Re: Corny email today--"elimination of salary increases in 2010 and
Stupid!!!!!!!!!!! My point is if you have an extremely limited income, you could really use a cost of living increase. At this point, you are not on an extremely limited income. If you are at the prime of your career you probably bought a house based on your income and you are living a lifestyle at or a little above what you can afford. Are you so far in debt that not getting a raise causes you financial hardship? So how do you figure that you are at the prime of your career? Is that statement based on the assumption that you will always be able to get a job in pharma? You could be looking for a job if your CEO decided to go the way of GSK instead of just eliminating raises. Take a moment and read those board postings. You should also know that once you hit your 40s, pharma won't want you because they can hire fresh young people in the prime of their career instead of you. Do you really think that you will not lose your job with this company before you hit your 40s if they decide to downsize even if you are a top producer? Many pharma companies get rid of some of their top performers during a downsize. What if the company you are with and the next and the next decide to downsize. With each downsize, you will be less marketable. You go ahead and whine about losing a raise, the next bad news you get could be worse. You could have no income or just unemployment payments. I am sorry, I forgot, you are at the prime of your career and you will always have a job. Go visit a food bank and find out how many families they are feeding where the breadwinner lost their job, can't find another job and can't feed their family. What about all of the home foreclosures? How long can you be out of work before you lose your home? From your comment about grand parents on social security having a house that is paid for, I believe that you have no clue what life can bring. Nor do you care to know because you are at the prime of your career and don't need to think about those people. You probably also think that kids you went to school with who received free lunches all came from families where the parents were too lazy to get a job or did you just think your family was smater or just plain better than those people? You really need to realize that you are not special and if you think you are special, go into management so that you can get the really big bucks. If you do go into management, think of this post when you have to deal with idiots who whine about losing a raise or having to deal with them after telling them they lost their job. Judging from your comment, it wouldn't phase you.

I haven't posted for a while. Since I was hired back, I have really had my nose to the old grindstone to win Pinnacle. My DBM says I could if my Q4 rerults are #1 in the nation! I'm close!
I must comment on all these neggie posts about the 0% merit increase. Mr. Cornelius and Mr. Hooper are only trying to do the right thing. I am so grateful I was hired back and to have a job!
All you neggies need to be grateful for your job. We should all email Mr. Cornelius and thank him for insuring our future as a company.
While other companies are lying off people, Mr. Cornelius has ensured we can keep saving patients.

Are you telling me you think this assures us of job security? It's quite the opposite. Take a good look at the signs - they all point to layoffs.
Don't ever have faith in our senior management. You are just a pawn in their financial game.

|
Please. The brats coming out of college are the biggest complainers out there. They expect to be promoted within a year, have zero work ethic, no professionalism, and in general are a complete disgrace. They don't even know how to dress right to go to work. m Stay home, kiddies!!

Why defer vacation time? Thats weird. I wonder if its because its a liability on the books, and Corny is juicing the company for some type of merger or something. Or maybe just to squeeze every last penny before his retirement?

Check your local state rules. They can not prevent U from deferring vaction in most states. Would make a juicy law suit.

Re: Corny email today--"elimination of salary increases in 2010 and
Your paycheck actually went down this year folks. They are slowly forcing you to take over the payments on your company car. Look at your new comp. car deduction for 2010 vs. last year. Add that to the increased costs of benefits and your overall comp dropped some $1500.00 annually. Yet, Corny will STILL get his annual STOCK bonus (no elimination of those and only top execs get them) and his annual "housing allowance" of $200,000+ . So Corny gets his house payment made, still gets a stock bonus, and you get your pay cut. Good $elling!

That is what makes me the maddest. The hypocrisy of the "leaders". Will they make any sacrifice? These "tough" decisions are easy to make if they don't affect you.
