I know I'm supposed to wrap it in tape, but what else?

It hurt like hell, and the top and side of my foot half way up is black and blue.

Did you have it x-rayed? If broken bad enough, in the wrong place, it could require internal fixation--also making sure no blood vessels damaged, etc.

No,I'm sure it's not THAT bad. I'll give it a few days. I've wrapped it and if it doesn't get any better by tomorrow at 5, I'll run over to the local doc in the box and let them look at it.

ha ha -- let me just run to my local dealer and pick up a few. Coor's Light over ice will be the pain killer in about 35 minutes.

Why Coors Light? You know what Coors Light and making love in a canoe have in common, right? LOL!

Seriously, I understand but after my knee surgery last September, I changed my mind. Once in a great while, does a body good.

Torch one up and you will forget that you have any toes.

My toe and side of my foot are now purple, and I do mean PURPLE. And the Coor's Light didn't help at all. I can move it, so I don't think it's broken. This is just gonna take a while.

I think a Lortab is in order.

I still recommend an X-Ray. Better safe than sorry....
So how did this happen. Any good story to tell?

I was walking through the den to the laundry room without a bra (or top) and was watching to see if Mr. Dump would notice (he was playing a game on the laptop). Since I was watching him instead of watching where I was going, I cracked my toe into the base of the recliner. When he heard the crack, he looked up. Needless to say the desired reaction to the initial action was moot.

    Good enough story?

If it still hurts really bad tomorrow I will get an xray.

Great story. Sorry about the toe, but kudos for flaunting it for the hubby.

Oh, DD, I have broken just about every toe. Yes, I am a klutz.

Most of the time a simple fracture of the toe will give you a ring of purple around the base or at least a "blood pool" at the bottom of the foot under the toe. Swelling is normal, but what you are describing is not what I normally tape to the other toe.

Don't like what you are saying about top half of foot - go get an X-ray to make sure you didn't fracture a proximal phalange (middle toe bone) or a metatarsal (long bone of foot).

You can thank Dr. Fucktard later, but get thee to the Urgent Care, stat.

No urgent care if you have good ins. See an ORS if possible. If it is serious, they can fix it and not just putz around with casts and boots and immobilizers (even though that may be all you need, find out from a pro how much damage is done and if ti truly needs advanced treatment). Foot bones carry your whole body--very critical--you don't want this coming back to haunt you several years from now and have a doctor tell you "you should have seen an ORS, but now you just have to live with the pain." The excessive bruising is ominous.

I respectfully disagree. An urgent care doc can X-ray it and determine if she need an ORS or not. She may need a referral due to insurance. That and if it's just a bad sprain or a minor fracture, they can immobilize it and get her comfortable - either way. She will have to wait a few days (if not longer) to see an ORS any way.

Regional differences. My area is dominated by a corporate minor ER, urgent care provider. Bunch of docs who could not make it in private practice (many because of personality, others incompetent). Taints my opinion of all urgent care.

Interesting. My wife swears I can hear a bra unsnap 2 miles away and panties drop 2 states away.

Will you be telling the doctor this story? :p

Good question. I know several docs that would LOVE the backstory.

Yeah, after he heard my swearing after the crack! I blame him for my foot.

Yes I did, he's one I used to call on, and had me tell the nurses too. No broken bones.
