Default Gas....Management Please Read

I live in the Northeast (not even a major city) and gas is going to hit $4.00/gallon!!!!! It's going to cost us more money to work than it's worth!!! I love my job and this company, but I can't wait until next year (tax returns) to break even on my expenses!!! Please, management, help us even if it's just a contingency plan during these times of outragous gas prices.

I hate to rub it in, but because we were already screwed on gas prices bcse of the bullshit with the middle east, but since we have lost 10% of the fuel in our nation this week, I heard on CNN that gas will be 7.00 a gallon.

However, you get a 450 car allowance? I would suggest leasing a hybrid car like a Ford Escape or a Toyota Prius (I have no idea how much back order they have).

You allowance will cover the car and you will pay very little gas. I was with PSS in 2002 when they only paid .09, but gas was under 2.00 a gallon, so I just broke even.

I now am at a company where I have a car and gas card (I do pay for personal miles-but well worth it).

If I had an allowance now, I would not use it as extra income, but use the money to get an economical vehicle. I know this really sucks, but at least you can drive whatever you like!

Ok, this is the deal...I live in Mass. I have a decent driving record (step 15, for those of you in the know) and my insurance is almost $3,000 a year. My car payments are $355 per month. I have about as economically efficient a car as someone could get outside of a hybrid. Let's do the math, now, and see how much I am going to be spending out of pocket just to work. What really sucks is that I have WAY MORE driving to do than many other reps due to my territory layout. No allotments are made for that....

Here's a thought for you. By working hard and earning a lot on the commission side, you should not have any issues with gas prices!

In the first place, cso's are notorious for screwing reps out of bonus; don't count on anything. Secondly, these contracts are normally based on the max number of calls (or signatures) you can make in a day; hybrids are great for the environment, but since they are low on hp/torque ratios, it's going to take you twice as long to get all your calls in, particularly in a large territory. You're not going to win going with a cso.

Why don't we save the petty obnoxiousness for the ambien reps.

Most useful part information in this thread has been the link to the silly movie...which is pretty funny.

Although I agree that the gas allowance is pitiful, and I'd be embarrassed if I were Kirk H to 'grant' a measly .02 increase, that's the environment we chose to work in and we should make the most of it or consider moving on.

Here's a site that you may find useful: http://www.gasbuddy.com/

You can look up gas prices for local stations, coverage may vary depending on where you live, but it definitely is worth shopping around.

For those in wave 2. If you get a chance to address the question on gas reimbursement to management like we did, I would like to know: What are the parameters for the decision on gas allowance? Is it to reimburse 100% of rep's fuel cost, 80%, or what? Although I may not be thrilled with the answer, I for one, would much rather have an unfavorable facts to base my decision to stay or leave, then to base it on speculation.

After all, aren't these are the standards of openness and fair balance the company requires from us?

Hybrids are a helpful suggestion, but I don't think they a reasonable option if purchasing solely for this contract.

You're looking in the range of $27-32,000, purchase price and even on a five year payment, car allowance won't cover it. Leasing isn't really an option, because of the # of miles that you will be putting on the car- lots of reps have found it out the hard way and really took a beating (worse than the crappy gas allowance).

You need 369miles per gas tank on 13 gallons to just break even. I don't know a lot of cars that get 28.3 miles to the gallon especially as a sales rep -- driving around cities.. looking for parking spots, etc.

SOMEONE DRANK THE KOOL AID- wow! Thanks for the two cents-that is what we are worth. Get used to the economy and the gas prices WILL stay high for the next yr or more??? This is not acceptable, and other options need to be provided-company needs to provide gas cards with a limit or another increase-this won't make a dent. Watch how HIGH the mileage is going to be-everyone knows how to PAD THEIR MILEAGE http://www.cafepharma.com/ubbthreads...s/confused.gif http://www.cafepharma.com/ubbthreads...mlins/grin.gif

Cost of gas divided by .13 is how many miles you drove. Screw or be screwed.

Anything below .38 is not acceptable as per the IRS standards allowable for mileage. This company has the nerve to even offer .11-.15 cents---talk about taking advantage of people, it sounds like this crackerjack outfit is trying its best. I hope people here stand up for their rights.

I think the car allowance is way too low. Should be raised to $700-800 and keep the .15 mile.

IRS guidleines just moved to $0.485 per mile...do the math on 25,000 miles per year that is over $1,000 per month....anything less is against the law.....it would be cheaper to give company cars.....this place is a joke.....even PDI, Innovex and Ventiv have car programs.....

How many of you who are gas whiners are driving cars, SUV's or other vehicles that get very poor gas mileage. This industry is no place for Vette's, Hummers, Lexus(BMW or Envoy's or other expensive vehicles. Reps driving these cars deserve no sympathy. Think about the image you're projecting as you pull into the parking lot. http://www.cafepharma.com/ubbthreads...s/confused.gif

The best way to manage gas (and time) is to only work a few hours each week. The object is to see only the right docs. Don't waste time, and gas on losers.

The IRS reimbursement rate is for people who pay for their own cars, not for people who receive car allowances. By now, you should have received a statement that will tell you if you were over reimbursed, which will be taxable income to you, or under reimbursed which you can use as an un reimbursed employee expense on your tax return. You can do the same with cell-phone bill overages. Extra mileage for you will be deductible at the IRS rate. The system is very fair for anyone with a reasonable automobile. You could be forced to drive a Taurus for heaven’s sake. It is very frustrating to hear people complain about compensation and benefits after agreeing to the terms by accepting the job in the first place. As for your rights, this is an at-will company. You have the right to leave.

the irs rate is now 44.5 cents per mile and can be used in stead of an allowance. this is ok to make your payments, etc. but a company car would be a helluva lot better.
