Thinking of Joining and Some Questions
I know that there will be some on this board who will tell me not to join but I am entertaining the possibility and just had two questions.
First of all, is prior experience taken into account when assigning a rep vacation time?
Secondly, do calls have to be recorded immediately after each call and are in-depth call notes required?
Thanks to all for your help in advance.

Re: Thinking of Joining and Some Questions
GSK does not allow you to think like an adult, you are a robot. 10 - 12 calls a day, long call notes that must be done daily. They watch very closely. METRICS, METRICS AND MORE METRICS. You will hate it.

[/ QUOTE ] Ask your new potential manager, these are legitimate questions, most of GSK DM's are really great people. They will tell you what you need to know. Congrautlations - a great company to work for.
Welcome aboard and good selling.

Most DMs are cheesy and nasty!!!!!!
They come off as really nice caring individuals-----and then bang, they will stab you in the back and leave the knife in and laugh in your face.

All new reps regardless of experience get 3 weeks vacation plus Christmas week.
Ask the DM regarding calls, call reporting is simple and short

Management leaves a wake of dead bodies. If you hire on, suck them dry, play their stupid games so that you win. They could care less about you or your family. http://www.cafepharma.com/ubbthreads...emlins/mad.gif

I prefer going to do my job and having my activities directed by what generates sales, not which box I haven't checked off yet. If you aren't familiar with GSK metrics, you are in for a big surprise. In that case, I would encourage you to go somewhere else where your skills are valued and the company wants you to manage your business based on your knowledge of the individual accounts. GSK believes the home office knows what is best and your thoughts and input are completely disregarded. Sorry state of affairs at this corporation.

If you still worked for GSK you would know that they no longer allow long call notes. I am glad that you still like to visit the GSK board.

[/ QUOTE ] OP here, what is the matter with good call notes, however long as needed. I don't understand-I was just curious, not that I will not make my call notes specific and useful for followup calls.

Re: Thinking of Joining and Some Questions
Although, a pharma sales rep does make a pretty good living (compared to other sales jobs, retail, office supplies, car sales, etc.) - You may find no satisfaction in doing it. GSK does not allow reps to think for themselves. All management cares about is that you do your call reporting after every call and deliver a core message. If you happen to get a decent manager, than this job might be okay for you. To be honest, this job is really not true sales. If you're lucky enough to get into selling medical cap. equipment, your more respected than.

Because too many dumbshit reps were putting things in the call notes like "told Dr. Smith I would set up more programs for me if he'd right more product."
Saw some like that from my own counterparts. A record of this type of quid pro quo is exactly the kind of internal documentation attorneys use against companies.
So now, you just click off the boxes for whatever core messages you communicated with the doctor.

Re: Thinking of Joining and Some Questions
This is embarrasing...I can't believe I have been a pharma rep for so long. Why do they pay us 55-75K plus bonus, car, benefits, etc to do this job? I cringe every time I see a male rep walk into an office. Who would date, marry, etc. a man who does this every day for a living? We are all actors playing a role to survive.

Re: Thinking of Joining and Some Questions
Show your customers you have a brain. I feel sorry when a female "barbie" walks into an office. Everybody is thinking ditz, nice to look at, but brainless, hard to earn respect.

Re: Thinking of Joining and Some Questions
GSK is the absolute worst company to work for, can't think of one manager that is a decent, kind person. You will regret the day you chose GSK if that's who you decide to go with.
