Well said. All of the talent is walking out the door at Medtronic. Upper management (i.e. Roy Gavin) still think customers buy from Medtronic and not local sales reps that develop relationships with customers. LOL, keep drinking the blue Kool-Aid Roy!!!

Did not make sense. Every time another battle was lost, more experienced soldiers were executed or fired by divisional generals to save the bullets. Sure, will win the next battle (with fewer soldiers and bullets) as promised by the generals. Some day, we'll win the war with a shrinking, demoralizing military with obsoleting weapons and fewer bullets. Instead of modernizing the weapons to arm our best soldiers, let's replace them with low pay no clue child soldiers who will be more obedient and loyal to the generals. Meanwhile our enemies are actively recruiting the best soldiers who were fired or defected and continue to win one battle after another. We are fighting many aggressive enemies at the same time in the field and we need new and modern weapons to match theirs. It's time to put the blame elsewhere instead of the hard fighting soldiers in a losing war.

We need a competence general who can deliver those weapons to the field soon to survive this war.

A very long and incoherent way of saying that Spine leadership is incompetent and they don't like highly paid/ experienced sales reps and managers. That is stating the obvious...

    Spine leadership is awesome.

That would mean the upper management would actually have to do something to 'lead' besides golfing and vacations. The new comp plans for FY18 to be announced in 2 weeks at the RTG managers meetings. All of the real RTG talent will soon be walking out the door.

Competitors are eating our lunch with so many innovative products introduced. Where are the new products to keep us in the OR? Can't be a leader when launching inferior me 2 products couple years later. If we can't fix that, annual RIF will be with us for ever.

There are no layoffs. We got a real low IQ troll whose "first wave" happened to them years ago.

Medical device maker Medtronic is trimming jobs in Memphis, but the extent of cuts is unclear.

Spokesman Victor C. Rocha emailed the following statement Friday:

“Medtronic operates in a highly competitive environment, and transformation is an inherent part of our business. We continually adjust as necessary to deliver operational and functional excellence, drive growth, and strengthen our position for the future in a highly dynamic healthcare industry.

“We recognize the strong work, dedication and quality of the employees. We are providing employee assistance to help reduce the effects of this action. The company is supporting employees as they transition to new employment opportunities.”

There were RIFs in past few years with little or no press release (at least not that I am aware of). This PR makes me think that it may be a big one, especially when not enough folks taking early retirement. However, I hope I am wrong and the impact will be minimal. Good luck to everyone!

Got put on a new initiative may be exciting but also a big risk if the experiment doesn't work. It seems that most attempts ended up failing and people got cut. Everyone is concerned and vulnerable to RIF as the knife goes deeper and deeper. Who may be next on the list?
On a positive note, some competitors are doing well and growing at a heathy rate. That means they will need help and need experienced folks. So there are opportunities for those affected by RIF or wanted to avoid RIF. No worries...
