There are just a few exceptions to this company. Very few territories that do 130-200k in overall commission and compensation. The company has re-structured several territories by either splitting them or bringing in Laparoscopic specialists. This has taken a huge portion of the Surgical bag away from the rep who grew the book of business to a new specialized rep who is supposed to support the Caiman energy device.

The guy you are talking about works for Surgical division and does well. There are prob a dozen positions that are like this throughout the country but these people have been here 15 plus years and there is a reason why they have not left. None of them can go work for another device company that makes that much money for the actual time spent in a territory. It won't be long before the rug gets snatched from under them as the company does not really want to continue to pay these reps that much money. There was another great rep on the east coast that was making into the 300's, but they set him up to get rid of him because they did not want to keep paying him that much money for that big of a territory.

This company wants to make the Surgical positions doing 70-80k at plan, good years you would be lucky to hit 6 figs. This is why they are paying such a low base salary and low rate of commission. It used to be a great company to work for 10 years ago, now... not so much.

The WI rep I believe still does into the $300's even after they cut his territory.

The WI rep in Surgical is a top 5% rep for the company. As mentioned before the poster said there are a handful of people that are in this position. When they take the endo out of the bag, that rep will suffer a great deal. It is just a matter of time, the company ain't what it used to be and the older folks know it. Incompetent people like J.W. running things into the ground.

It's unfortunate how bad this company is run bc there are some good people there. Management is absolutely clueless.

Currently the Surgical Division has been and is selling Lap instruments with the exception of a little more than a dozen Lap Specialists in their areas. The Lap Specialists are completely in charge of selling all Lap instruments in the OR.

They acquired the Caiman energy vessel seal product line from Arogon Surgical a few years ago. From my understanding, they are paying these specialists a high base salary 70-90k depending on experience and they are trying to take market share away from the giants in the industry. The book of business that the surgical reps earned and grew after all those years are supporting the specialists commission rates.

Aesculap's goal is to eventually have these specialists completely take over selling the lap instrument line, but they cannot afford to bankroll that amount of salary nationally. The company is trying to be strategic about big city locations where they believe it will be worth the growth. Expansion is something they have been having trouble with because the product is not a game changer, and adds to the other "me too" products in the existing surgical bag.

The purchase has infuriated the reps on the Surgical side because if you take out the Endo piece, they really will be left with selling containers- "caskets" and general stainless steel instruments to meet their quotas. It takes them selling out of the operating room and having to sell a shit ton of hemostats to make quota. Coming from a rep that just left in July 14', this company is a joke. Who knows if they are going to achieve the goal of these specialists nationally, but I was not sticking around anymore to find out I would be like all the other bums trying to pedal my commodity products that are not the cheapest. Not many people anymore gives a rats ass about the German quality craftsmanship or the DIN standard. But yet the company tells you to paint the picture this way. Leadership is abysmal. Stay away!

The neuro division is the same. Zero technology besides a new shunt in '15. They are placing the future of this division on shunts and a new dura repair

A shunt that is same technology that companies like Medtronic have had out for what, 5 years?

I worked in Neuro and they don't get it. Give reps similar competitive products. Which they never do. The nuero patties where the strings would break were an absolute joy to sell, let me tell you.

They are a privately held company and sales have always been strong in Europe

You couldn't run fast enough from Aesculap. The top reps are even trying to get the hell out. ZERO NEW technology to reach their sales goals....Neuro and surgical. Some really good reps there with no long term strategy from above. All on reps shoulders.

What's the story with the Neuro division here? A good opportunity to look into?

Several solid Neuro reps jumped ship and more to come. This is a very "interesting" time for Neuro

Like other posters said, they only want you to push shunts. Nothing else matters to to them except shunts. Get ready to give them a morning update on your shunt progress, then again in the afternoon and then a weekly update. Don't even tell them your selling clips or instruments, they only want shunts. You get my drift...its all about shunts at this place.
