I hear most of there's like working for Genentech. Is there anything negative that someone could share?

Some office space is transitioning into an open-floor plan set-up. People are pissed of being moved into these new space without being able to bring their personal things anymore. Plus, managers aren't quite ready to let their employees work from home, even though each workstation is technically resources for 2.3 employees....

Some people love the new open design...most hate it.

Other than that - the wind tunnel effect between the buildings is murder in the winter! :)

    Hope that helped...

There is plenty! HR hiring practices are a mess; lots of nepotism and political games both internally and the field. It is time for Genentech to act like a top company and improve their unfair hiring practices. HR really needs to work on this top-down.

Yeah the much despised open office setting... Heard that it's coming to all of GNE. PTR got kicked out of B32 3rd floor to 2nd floor the open set-up for all including directors (LOL so we get to see that they do jack shit). No space of your own even for the big boss and 1st come 1st served for little more private spot and maybe nicer view.

And as for HR - bunch of schmucks ran by lesbians. There are pockets of good dept but most are overbloated and ugly politics due to no major layoff in GNE history. Man GNE really needs to stop hiring like crazy which is has as many openings are not being filled or removed since mid 2015. What gets me most is that even the FTEs work on some useless projects and hire contractors to do their job...

As for the biz - rumour says RIF (reduction in force) after March bonus. Why? 'Cos the 3 horsemen facing the biosimilars in 2018 (Avastin, Herceptin, Rituxan). Using same playbook as Amgen who went thru rounds of nasty RIF 1 and 2 yrs before patent expirations. Heck the ROaCHEs already announced closing FIVE small molecule plants globally including the only site RCI. ROaCHEs managed to close ex-US HQ NUTley in 2013 too. They're good at it and you can bet that jobs in ROaCHEland won't be impacted as much since they need to pay out 1+ and more like 2 yr severance in EU.

Yep - blatant discrimination against white men at all levels and especially new hires. ROaCHEs demanded that more women in the management in last 5 yrs resulting in promotion of many useless unqualified women managers. Then the Chinese and Indians only hire their kind. In the mean time HR allows this kind of skewed hiring practices.

This is absolutely true and shameful. Lib's are nasty uncaring people. This SF company is full of them.

All true . The saying goes once you become a blue badge, you hire a green to do your job. That is no joke, I see many departments were the FTEs do nothing but go to meetings for career enhancing side projects that have nothing to do with there core job function, while green badge contractors do all the work. Often the FTEs are hired only because the know someone leading to alot of relatives, and same race hiring. Had a good friend who was Asian working in a research lab were virtually everyone was Indian, and they forced him out with the Indian manager constantly on him for no reason. Watch your back the best way to get ahead is to make powerful friends, and throw others under the bus, work performance is all about perception.

    Correct!

I found it shocking as an external hire that after few months noticed that FTEs are constantly in motion for their next gigs and the weird (and really screwed up) thing is many of these internal job transfers are given to people with NO skills and experiences required for the job! Kind a like sick inbreeding of incompetencies galore and utterly demoralizing for those work hard. And yeah so true about the army of blue FTEs hiring contractors to do their job while they ar busy making "alliance", brown nosing, worthless non-value add projects, and it just goes on.

Worse is joke of all joke annual talent review which made me sick having sat thru it. Talk about horse trading and undermining often good employees and axxholes buttkissers are given crown to move ahead with their next prized assignments. I was shocked how negative it was with literally the room full of people throw darts when each name came up. So if anyone pissed you off or pointed out your incompetencies then you are marked.

I mean GNE so damn BLOATED having worked for other big pharma and RIPE for RIF like the big pharmas went thru in east coast many years ago.

This is so true, we are in for some significant changes. Look at the dog drug Tamiflu we charge, how much for 1 day reduction in the ACA environment that will not fly!
We have many drugs, but nothing really great.
I am astonished at the SSF environment, so many just doing a 2 year stint to get thier next promotion- with little of the tools, resources or competencies to do the job they were just promoted from, let alone the next role!

I laugh at the emphasis on the HOW- soon when the profits dry up they will be looking for the WHAT you do, if you can't get stuff done without farming it out to an agency, cut the middle man- hire the agency sh*tcan the middle- Training, marketing and some of the rest.
HOW- wow! can we get more passive aggressive on the "feedback rich" culture
Bunch of crap. Cafe pharma and Feedback at GNE are the same- an forum of anonymity and your boss gets to deliver the crap.

This place will look very different in a few years and then they will need people who can get STUFF Done, and they wont have anyone because they were too comfortable giving it to agencies or too focused on some HOW, of which they never did the WHAT!

Were in Vegas this week, Sex, drugs, alcohol and rock in roll!! Part of a threesome last night. Very cool to have a Bi-Cougar as part of the threesome. Cougarfest is alive and well. I wonder how many rooms of white candy are available this week. So cool. The Mandalay is rocking this week! Lots of moms getting away from the ball and chain of home. Round two tonight.

Great to be part of a company that can charge whatever they want for drugs and everyone has to pay, no negotiating. A week of cougars gone wild!!

Oh my....another idiot working here? Wow, what a total pea brain, idiot with a maturity level of about a 12 year old. Grow up!! Wow, it's really hard to believe grown adults think like this....even worse, Genentech was stupid enough to hire your lame ass. You're a douchebag.

    WTF!

OK everyone.... Name me one company that doesn't have issues? One that keeps EVERYONE happy! It's called work, not play time. Every company has good/bad employees, good/bad hiring practices, etc. The phrase 'it's who you know, not what you know' didn't just come into existence in 2016. that's life ..... so start networking and working towards your next goal you lazy SOBs.

“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time” - it's actually true.

I'm sorry things are not being handed to you on a platter and you actually have to work for it. Took me 2.5 years to get next role, through hard work, taking on additional work, and yes kissing some ass. But guess what, that's the world we live in so adapt or die!

It's so much easier to complain about things in life rather than actually doing something about it and taking responsibility for yourself. Remember NO ONE forced you into a job. You said yes, if you don't like your job, then get a new one. I did.

And finally for the guy who mistakes this board for Craigslist and talks about his 'cougars'. Good for you, you got a 40-50 something year old woman to cheat on their family and touch your weewee. Let me get a participation ribbon for you along with a juice box. Apparently you need to get out more. You are so AWESOME that I want to party with you. Get a life and go get VD.

Glad to hear from a happy camper. Guess kissing axxses worked for ya including surviving the nasty 360 deg "rigged" feedbacks but watch your back pal 'cos the big RIF is coming to center of the world SSF.

.... and if layoffs come, guess what I'll have to find a job just like everyone else.

We do not live in socialist France where we can just complain about everything ..... block traffic, disrupt government and physically abuse your employer, all because your job is not Guaranteed. As my mom told me when I was 5, 'life is not fair'.

Air France workers rip shirts from executives after airline cuts 2,900 jobs

And BTW, I was laid off in 2010 with the Roche merger and managed to find a new job. It's not rocket science people. Put in the work! There are a lot of crappy things about GNE as well, but guess what all companies have issues.

If you don't like your job, come up with a good idea, start your own company and you can make any and all the rules you want. Oh wait, that involves actual work, never mind I'll just continue to complain.

Hey asswipe, glad that I don't know you and that you're not in my franchise, let alone region or division because I'd ID you quickly as a douche bag loser who thinks this is a joy ride. Go back to your PCP days at GSK or Pfizer, because once the changes kick in, you'll wish you were still schlepping Cialis or Viagra, driving your Ford Fusion or Escape and having daily call goals. If you're for real, you aren't Genentech caliber

Obviously you were canned in 2010 meaning you must have been really incompetent and/or people couldn't stand you to be part of very few who got canned in 2010.
