    husband and wife early 50's , paying for 2 private colleges. we both earn about 200k together. 620,000 In 401k, vacation home and city home owe 600,000 on them but have 400,000 equity. We will probably work until 60

    If youre going to retire at 60 you better get more aggressive in putting money away or you will need to prepare to live a very meager lifestyle and have little to no care in your final years.

    My husband and I are both 50. We just paid off our 450K house this past month. We have 40K in emergency fund (liquid cash), no debt at all, and 621K in our combined 401ks. Husband will retire in a couple of years with a government pension worth 80K a year. One adult child. The plan is continue to max out 401K and stack cash in bank and retire at 55. No touching the 401K until it doubles to 1.2 million if ever (around 7 years or so.)
