Consolidations

With all of these consolidations going on what do you think the chances of Arthrex being bought by one of the big Ortho companies, and would that be a good thing? I know S&N would not be interested, but I'm thinking Zimmer, Stryker, or J&J could be good fits? It seems to me that we have spent a lot of money trying to be one of these companies, wouldn't it just be easier for Arthrex to just join another well established company instead of trying to be something it isn't?

That simply falls on R.S. I don't think he feels it is as big as it could be/he wants it to be. Therefore, I don't think he will personally. I do know Stryker has approached him a couple of times and he said 'thanks but no thanks'. If he says no to them I can't see him saying yes to anyone else.

It's all about pride, the challenge, mission, and sense of accomplishment.
Why sell and give those things up?

Who's next? Your guess is as good as any! My guess is Wright, Linvatec, or Tornier. Good products left in the bag but not going anywhere fast.

Reinhold wont sell. He's got a good thing going and is very invested in the company. Now his kids are graduating college and getting involved too - so why would he?

Everyone has a price... In today's market he'd be stupid not to entertain offers, it wouldn't mean he'd have to get out the biz, he could remain an important piece to the puzzle. Arthrex doesn't have the portfolio to compete with sole source Ortho deals that include sports, recon, trauma, spine, extremities, etc.

My guess is Livatec to Mitek, then they will finally have a shaver system to go with their RF. This would make too much sense so it probably won't happen.

"He's too invested in the company."

Ok, so some how he is more invested in the company than every other business owner that built up their business and then sold it to make a profit. Hmm...

Do you understand why people build a business? Everything is for sale!

I love how the typical Arthrex idiot sales rep thinks, somehow we are different than every other company out there.

Yes, ass wipe, it is all about money. And he stands more to gain by holding onto the company and reaping most of the profits than to sell and take a smaller percentage of the revenue.

I never said we were different, jerkoff.

Well played Arthrex rep, or probably manager with language like that. Asswipe and jerk off, I can tell your a classy person! Guess it hit a bit close to home, or maybe this is just how you talk on a regular basis? Either way you just reinforce every stereotype I have of the typical Arthrex rep!

True. That is what we are like.

Oh yes, I try really hard to portray my class on a faceless board with anonymous posts.

What hits close to home is that we break our backs as reps for this company and we as the reps always get the short end of the stick - that is what my problem is. The company goes on and on about how everything is done to help surgeons treat their patients better blah blah blah, but in reality its only about money. At least be up front about that and I'd be ok with it.

And who are you by the way?

Looks to me like another rep who is getting beat by Arthrex, we may not make as much as they do, but we have much better products! We know why there are so many of us, we know why we don't make as much, we are not as stupid as this board makes us out to be.

We learn from the best and then move on. Nobody is getting rich at Arthrex! You work your ass off for the business, I would say the average Arthrex rep works way harder than the competition, we have to! No it's not smart, but it is what we signed up for. Most of us know it, some don't, oh well. They told us when we started what they would pay us and how hard we would work, no surprises.

Other companies don't like that we hire so many reps, well they are free to do the same!

Yes Arthrex rep we all know the game, you try to out number everyone else until you are the last one standing. You condition the surgery staff and surgeon to expect a rep in the room, something you know the other companies can't do. When the surgery centers and hospitals eventually are yours you then get them to pay whatever you feel is appropriate.

From what I am hearing from other reps the Arthrex reps are some of the lowest paid reps in the business, they are some of the hardest working reps, and they make life miserable for other companies. So they are changing the game, but not for the better in my opinion! I've been around for quite some time and having competition is a good thing. Arthrex is not responsible for inventing many of the products they claim to have brought to market, other companies are. Arthrex is just very good at marketing what they have.

Hopefully Arthrex will be sold to another company soon and this over competitive mentality will go away.
