If you are making more than $125,000 in a big pharmaceutical company (I very much doubt it) then stay where you are!

If you exaggerated about your current salary as most reps working in the pharmaceutical industry do, then your base pay can be $90,000 but you need years of experience in Aesthetics to get that base salary.

As a company Allergan (Aesthetics included) pays based on number of years in the industry.

If you have no aesthetics sales experience (regardless of your current base salary), 8 years of pharmaceutical sales experience will get you a starting base salary of $75,000-$80,000 a year at Allergan (remember it is an employer's job market).

If you come from a company like Medicis (now Valeant) with 3 years of aesthetics sales experience, you can expect a starting base salary of $90,000 a year.

Selling Viagra and Cialis is not considered aesthetics sales experience :)

Nobody has a "great" territory. Territories are based on potential of the market in that territory, not how much is "flying off the shelves". Are you serious?

Hate to tell you this but specialty pharmacy pays more than that. I am looking to get out, because the writing is on the wall, and they are downsizing but, I made 160 last year.

And no I ain't full of it. If there was a way to post my w2 I would. Base over 100 and blew up my goals.

    Real answers here
rep with no facial aesthetics background can expect to come in around 77-79k base
bonus opportunity about $40-$52k if you are consistent every quarter
this is a very different sell than traditional pharma.

I think something to consider is that you will have to put in a decent amount of time with this job it's not just drop samples. You have to do evenings of beauty, sell product, provide plans to pull thru product, maintain consistent growth year over year. Remember you're only as good as your past years numbers.

So to answer your question about areas where the product is flying off the shelve or sells it's self, it does but there is a very low profit margin especially considering that in the areas where it is flying off the shelf there is a lot of competitive products as well as competing dr's selling the same thing. If you are a good rep you can plan to spend at least 50-60 hours a week that includes doing reports, helping accounts plan events, attending events.

If you are making $100k for a base in your current position, that's awesome but not realistic with Allergan, Medicis, or Merz...not even if you have 5+ years experience in facial aesthetics.

This truly is a job that requires a lot of business acumen. Not sure what the weighting of the products are now across the portfolio but I would ask a lot of questions about that as well as ask to see how the territory performed over the last 2 years...did it make it's numbers, how far off were the Latisse numbers...Last time I checked the latisse numbers were manageable but could really weigh you down and cause you to load in other products to meet your 100% to goal attainment across the board.

    Good luck and best wishes!

50% of the reps didnt make q100% uota for the quarter that just ended. Hitting "consistent numbers" isnt that easy to achieve.

Consistency is key but hard to achieve year over year growth with latisse expectations...they are highly unrealistic. So in order to make the 40-52k range you have to hit 100% across portfolio which can be hard especially when you load in a quarter so you can achieve quota to make the year end bonus.

Top reps at Allergan with many years of tenure do not hit this. There is no salary range and bonus that would allow anyone to acheive this at Allergan. Check the pay grades. Impossible.

when I worked in the facial aesthetics division at 100% to plan each quarter I made 79k base 8500 x 4 months plus the super bonus at the end of the year which if at 100% was about a $12.5k payout. Top reps did make this plus more especially when the online Latisse stores per churning it out....

Please check the pay grades it is entirely possible, but you have to work your tail off to pull thru product

I work at Allergan. A recruiter called and told me about a Medicis job that pays over $210,000. Is that possible? Seems like the same job description.

This thread has turned into "My Dick" is bigger than "Your Dick"..."My Pay" is bigger than "Your Pay"!

Reps bragging about salary potential? Who CARES!

No matter where you work at Allergan you are micromanaged, work 60 hours a week, have no time for a wife, a family or a girlfriend but you have potential to make over $120,000 a year!

I rather make $80,000 a year but HAVE A LIFE!!!

I am considering taking a position here, but am apprehensive due to all the negativity. I realize that cafe pharma isn't the place to come for a "pick-me-up", but is anybody happy working for SkinMedica/Allergan? If not, are other divisions of Allergan any better? Serious replies only please.

Your work life will be EXTREMELY MISERABLE due to the MICROMANAGEMENT that is rampant in all divisions of Allergan, but especially HORRIBLE at SkinMedica and Eye Care Divisions, and that is why there are so many openings throughout the nation for both.

Here is the truth on facial aesthetics and dermatology divisions at Allergan:

SkinMedica: Over priced facial creams, facial washes, blemish removers and moisturizers that are sold over the internet and much cheaper at AVON!

Dermatology: Three over priced acne medications (hundreds of generics available) and one over priced psoriasis medication and one over priced sun block.

Botox Cosmetics: The best division at Allergan due to Botox/Juvederm but you can smear any prostaglandin on your eyelashes and get them to grow just like Latisse (a prostaglandin) does.

In a nut shell unless you are selling Botox/Juvederm, you will be trying to sell over the counter skin products as over priced prescription skin products to doctors. GOOD LUCK!!!

Do not accept a position with SkinMedica. Please read the SkinMedica threads. All the posts are negative. It is all true. SKinMedica is not run by Allergan but the Senior Leadership team of SkinMedica that existed at the time of the Allergan acquisition. Even the HR department is different. All HR issues are covered up by SkinMedica and Allergan HR is oblivious to what is going on under their own nose. From what I see, Allergan's HR is just as bad and does not care what the SKM issues are that exist. They just brush it under the carpet as if it never happened. The turnover rate is 75% year over year. They suck the living life out of you. This is not a pharma job. This is blood, sweat, and tears. Completely different than anything you have experienced in your life. I personally know from experience. They are the worst company that I have ever worked for. No amount of money is worth the harassment and belittling behavior that my manager expressed towards me. Your manager can make or break you here. They start you out at $70K and maybe if you are lucky they will pay you $80K base. Unfortunately, before Allergan bought SKM the bonus was great. You could make $10K or more a month and now you are good to make $2k a month. Quotas are at a 40 to 70% growth year over year and isn't consistent across the board with other territories. It sucks here at SKinMedica. Do not take the job. Life will be much better anywhere else but here. Allergan owns SKM but they operate independently from them. The implant and injectable division is a much better place to be. When you see a lot of job postings and it's not due to an expansion or new product than you can be sure of one thing. The current reps were either forced out or quit because they got fed up of taking crap anymore. Good luck to you.

The previous post is spot on. Everyone at skm is holding on for the new year in hopes that legacy skm mgt is gone! After all, their 25 mil paid is coming soon.

I'm currently here and no one is happy. And yes he covers up everything and ignores it! Unless you are one of the reps sleeping with your boss your life is miserable.

I've been with Allergan a very long time and this acquisition has destroyed our spirits.

I look forward to a facial expansion!!!!! The facial division rocks!
