Stating and repeating the obvious but it HAS been 8 years and yes encode is very cool. I was blown away with the technology advances when I interviewed. Still many years later nobel,Straumann and Zimmer do very well without amazing healing abutments. It depends on where the territory is located. Cerec/encode was supposed to change the game. Itero/encode also. DIEM 2 ? DIEM is successful in some places but so is all on 4. You can have an amazing product but when leadership is a complete disaster the product won't save the day. 3i did not have the growth it should have last year. It has everything to do with HR's stubbornness in holding on to poor leaders.

Have you seen the growth numbers per calendar year for 2013? Straumann and 3i were neck & neck the leaders in growth. I double dare you and stamp it twice to verify it, it may surprise you.

This argument for Encode is getting sad. 3i reps are jumping ship as fast as they can, and that alone will ruin any confidence in the system. Look, all implants integrate, it's the confidence in the company and price that drives sales. 3i's reputation is shot. Now let's see if Zimmer can salvage this sinking ship.

So, you didn't take me up on that dare? Have you seen the growth numbers. If we were negative growth, or even lower single digit growth, then you would have a point.

Oh, and when it comes to integration, yeah you might be right. But what is considered a failure? If an implant has lost significant crestal bone, however it's hanging on and is solid, is THAT considered a success? That's what separates the premium players from those that claim titanium is titanium.

As for dumbing down the restorative process. Here's the deal, those that wanted it simple and still do are GP's in their 60's that still wish to have the specialist place the abutment for them (a dying breed). Now, with implants prevalent in the universities, everyone has to do open, close tray impressions, place implants, do locators. These are procedures that were not taught when the dentists you visit with the Circa 1970's wood paneling in their office were in dental school......MESSAGE!

"Now, with implants prevalent in the universities, everyone has to do open, close tray impressions, place implants, do locators. "

Everyone, huh ? Stop with your rah - rah Sorority b.s. I would place significany cash on a wager that no more than 10% of the 'restoring' population is competent with those procedures cited above, the exception would be working up and placing fixtures as well as competent after Sx care - less than 5 %. Those generals placing fixtures competent to handle post-op complications less that 1%.

Get a lifejacket. You're sinking and will be in that cold, frigid water soon with no rescue in sight.

The river DeNial is calling you home.

You are comparing straumann's percentage growth to 3i's and trying to spin as
You are on rebound?? That is like comparing McDonalds percentage growth to Arby's. 3i has lost soooooooo much market share the last five years it ain't even funny. I would comfortably put Nobel, Straumann, Dentsply and even Biohorizons in front of 3i now in terms of specialists who place implants now. It wasn't so long ago that you guys were firmly third. Now, you are a has been. It's time to look in the mirror and admit you guys blow.

Straumann and 3i grew approx 7%, Nobel about 2%, Zimmer was negative 2%, Dentsply Astra 3%. Checked it, it's all true. Straumman, Nobel, Zimmer and Astra are public, Biomet publishes, although not required to do so. In terms of revenue, Straumman is first, Nobel second, Astra 3rd (although cad/cam was weighted more), 3i, Zimmer.

U.S. Market has is pretty much the same except for the flipping of Astra to 4th and 3i to 3rd. However, with the anticipated merger, Zimmer and Biomet combined will have the largest U.S. Based market share.

I think you need to start grouping yourself with Zimmer now. Daddy Zimmer isn't going to be happy if you keep dissing the company signing your paychecks.
