we are being very, very secretive about calling reps and interviewing them, then having them make a blood oath not to tell their friends or coworkers. SSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH. Keep it quiet.

    Interesting comments.

I suggest that entering into hem/path is a smart move for GI Path based on historical information. Dianon was diversified with urology, derm, and hem as well as US Labs. Both were acquired by LCA for millions (almost $1 billion purchase price between the two of them). Every company seeks means to grow and hem is still a strong market despite how many player compete for the business. More drugs are in Stage 3 Trials targeted at luekemia and/or lymphoma which means more diagnostic tests needed on bone marrow/blood samples. Investors are still purchasing stock or making strategic investments within the hem clinical lab market. GI Path is physician owned, yet there is always room for change (see Ameripath and Quest as a reference).

If you look at the recent landscape, large companies (GE & Novartis) are buying companies (Clarient & Genoptix) doing hem/path due to the companion diagnostic angle and the CLIA lab model.

In my opinion, the CEO is following a proven path to success, diversifying the company's risk, and positioning the company for future partnerships and ventures. As a result, the sales force will be well suited for growth and opportunities.

Service and sales will be the deciding factors for success once a strategy is formulated and launched.

Issue with Companion Diagnostics is that Big Pharma looks for Big name Pathologists and Companies. With Genoptix and Novartis, thats one angle. If you were a player like Lily, Merck etc, would you look at GI Path for companion Diagnostics? Nooooo would probably at this point start with Clarient with their R&D arm and the GE Healthcare powerhouse behind them. You would avoid Sonic, Labcorp, Quest because they are not viewed as premeir pathology labs.
Novartis will work with Genoptix and offer them first dibs on any drug related diagnostics.

These guys just want to grow big enough to sell out and retire..

Forget the Heme thing. What does everyone think of the new name for the joint? Poplar Healthcare Management? Really? Sounds like a nursing home. Better get ready to sell foley catheters and adult diapers for Bill and the gang once the ACOs have a firm foothold in and put downward pressure on one dimensional comporate labs.
