What the heck is going on at Hill's. I heard that Ken P, the National Sales Manager got canned. He was so over his head. They regional team isn't much to be proud of either. I wonder how long it will take before Colgate says goodbye to Hill's and their old methods.

How is life at Hills? What can a rep expect to make, realistically? decent expense budget? what kind of company car?

    thx

Things are fine. Watching the budget, but most companies are doing the same. Expense and sample accounts are still good. Ford fusion or escape. Salary depends upon experience. Bonus at goal is 26% of salary, paid by qtr.

You would be lucky to work here. We are the number 1# animal health nutrition company! the culture here is incredible and the pay is great. #hillsallday

Hmmm... Can't say I agree with you about the pay, but the culture really is great. It's actually worth a slightly smaller salary to not have to put up with all the pharma regs and BS. Hill's is also great for giving you freedom to run your territory as you see fit (as much as a company can). You can't beat being able to design your own promotions!

Like all companies, Hill's isn't perfect; but, the fact that we have tons of 15 yr+ reps should tell you a lot about working here. Pharma folks may poke fun at you for "pushing kibble," but at the end of the day you'll be proud to represent our product line. Good, great benefits, company car, superior products and reasonable sales freedom. The average Hill's rep is quite happy. The only downside; the vacation sucks (only 2 weeks to start).

Any insight on what the training is like for new hires? Location, duration etc?

Pretty in depth. It's about eight weeks, but not necessarily consecutive weeks. You'll have to go to Topeka for at least one week. You'll have a week each for therapeutic and wellness training. Typically these have been in Topeka, but I believe they have been trying home based web training recently. You'll spend a week or two with your manager, probably in your territory. You'll go ride with a field trainer in their territory. You'll also have a field trainer ride with you in your territory, as well as a week with your field vet. You'll also have a week with your area tech specialist. This is a rep who will train you on the computer systems etc..

    Where are you interviewing?

Well, another good thing about Hill's is that it's almost impossible to get fired. Not that I should. You'll have to wait 10 years.

And, if you do happen to get fired, go to RC, they will hire you.

Impossible to get fired because of all the lazy ass reps who get paid the same bonus no matter where they rank. You can work your ass off and make the same bonus as the guy who doesn't leave his house. Depending on the DM you get, it can be micromanagement hell. If you are on the east coast, watch out for RSD VW, she is a terror and tells her managers what to do. If she doesn't like you, nothing will change that.
Hill's is a good company but way behind the 8 ball when it comes to listening to their customers. They do well in the Rx arena but are struggling every day in the wellness market.
Pay is low compared to other jobs.

Bonus is slowly being moved towards individual performance, so quit your bitching. What RSD doesn't tell their managers what to do? VW is one of the best.

Oh Dear God ! Hit that nail on the head. Might as well talk to the cat for all the good it does. My vet clinic are fuming ! You've seen the "new, improved " K9 I/D Low Fat label right ? Way to go to help set it apart from original ! Plus, they absolutely love having to break down boxes now.

I don't think you can get a worse RSD than Val W.
