Ummmmm okay! He told her the price was $1,780 instead of $2,000. This is really the best argument you could come up with? You’d have been better off not replying if that’s your best response. $1,780 or $2K versus $8 is still ridiculous. At the end of the day the drug is being paid by some entity at an egregious price difference for Americans versus Australians.

AOC hit him between the eyes with her VALID point and his explanation was extremely weak. Call it grand standing but I call it a damn good question which your CEO provided a sorry answer. What’s unfair is pricing a product 220X more for a US citizen than a patient in another country. If it was $25 versus $8 it would still be unfair but to price a product at $1,780. Really? Mic dropped! Next!

So you hurled an insult since you cannot construct a valid argument as to why one country’s patients are charged $1,780 for a drug that is a mere fraction of that price to manufacture while another country charges $8. Even if a patient pays around the $30 you claim it’s still ridiculous. Why the difference? Gilead has more than made its money for a 15 year old drug. It’s pure greed! Plain and simple.

Btw, you conveniently left out the fact that the NIH (tax payer dollars) funded the PrEP study ($50M). Instead of throwing out insults make a coherent and justifiable argument for the mammoth difference in price for Americans. Some entity is overpaying. Let’s see if you can make a valid argument or if you’ll revert to your insults because you know your points are weak. I’m pulling for you! Hopefully, you know the difference between greed and earning a profit.

Listen, for once and for all, Truvada is branded in the US. It’s generic in Australia. That’s the difference. Got it?

I know there’s no point in arguing with you. I’m not going to change your mind b/c you aren’t interested in the facts. You want to believe that Gilead is an evil organization and will twist lies to suit your narrative. I get it. I’m out.

Here’s the bottom line, it’s not greed it’s the LAW!! If you don’t like it vote folks that will actually do their job and change it!! You continually challenge the other answers and continue to spin your opinion!! The progressives used this forum like the children they are as the a Trump administration chose not to pursue further action on the patent for TVD and this was their sophomoric decision!! Guess what, continue marching, interrupting and repudiating logic and we will continue to provide for ours and vote!! Fact is, the coasts and inner cities have had their way for the last 8 yrs prior to 2016 and now it’s time to swing the proverbial pendulum back!!

“It’s not greed it’s the LAW!!” Bwaaaahahahaha....!!!!! That’s laughable!!!! You're right! Greed is the law. NOTHING on my end is being spun. You’re the one doing the spinning trying to justify and rationalize the same product costing $1,780 in one country versus $8 in another. Doesn’t matter who’s paying since whatever/whoever’s paying is shelling out a helluva lot more than $8. I simply want to know the justification of THE SAME DRUG being priced at more than 220X the dollar amount in one country versus another. If it’s greed then say so because that’s absolutely what it looks like. You know the old walks like a duck cliche. Manufacturing pills is not that expensive. I know you don’t have a truly justifiable nor logical explanation other than greed for this egregious difference but I’ll keep playing along. Your turn!

You do understand that damn-near ALL of our politicians are at least millionaires, right? Red or blue they don’t give a damn about the average “Joe Works Everyday American.” Translation: there are very very few politicians not bought and paid. That’s what makes politicians like AOC refreshing because she hasn’t been corrupted. At least not yet!

AOC is refreshing to you because she is on your level, intellectually- you get her. I agree we pay to much in the USA for lifesaving products, other countries need to start paying their fair share. If we all payed $8 a month for these products (26 cents a day), there wouldn’t be any money to invest in developing the next lifesaving products. People like you need to go to a socialist country like Venezuela and see how your ideas work. By the way, over 1/10th of their population has scrambled to other countries to survive in the last couple years, most only have enough money to buy flour once a month, and their current inflation rate is over 10,000 percent. Ideas that you support have resulted in these failures throughout history. Look around and be extremely grateful for what capitalism has brought you, your family, and the world. While not perfect, it is a million times better than what the idiots like AOC and Bernie look to change the USA into - ask any immigrant

Ok! You don’t have a reasonable explanation or justification for the gross, unfair and unjust price difference. You’re argument is that it’s okay since we live in a nation of capitalism so I should gladly pay 220X more for any given product. With this current “in over his head” president we have it’s only a matter of time before he is anointed America’s first king and then we’ll have the same corruption as Venezuela you noted. At the end of the day it’s still greed which you refuse to acknowledge. I’m all for capitalism but I am not for greed and gluttony. By the way, Australia is also a capitalist society but greed doesn’t rule the day.

As LEGAL immigrant, you scare me. Socialism does not work, period. People of my country beg to come to USA. People like you and family enjoy benefit of this great country, but always complain. You have no idea what you wish for. You very naive on how bad socialism is. Go enjoy your abundance of food, technology, and peaceful night sleep. Others all over world in socialist country do not!

As an American born citizen YOU scare me. Learn how to speak AND write proper English before you determine how to cash in on this American democracy and engage in debate. When you learn how to recite proper English then we can debate drug prices or whatever else but you must first learn the language to be worthy of my time. How my question devolved into a socialist, capitalist, democratic, communistic debate is beyond me. It was a simple question that folks went off the rails. Why should one pay 220X more for the SAME product in one country versus another?

I will! Thanks for granting me permission to vote. You are the typical far right conservative that cannot answer simple questions without insults and name calling. Just like YOUR current prez. Sign of the times I guess! I’ll just file your reply to “you don’t have an intelligent answer” which is why you and other Trump cultists are surely leading this great country over a cliff. He’s in over his skis which is stating the obvious. Vote “Don the Con” for four more years and see what that gets us all. God help us!

You need to grasp that the US is the biggest market for just about every drug. The prices here pay for the rest of the world in many cases. if you want to see prices fall to levels they are seen in other countries, you will only dig your own grave. There will be no incentive for any company to spend billions on drugs that ultimately fail for to bring the rare ones that actually make it to market. You will see innovation die. Be very very very careful what you wish for.....and i am no Republican.

Soooo...what you’re saying is it’s just fine to charge Americans egregious drug prices for the SAME DRUG that the rest of the world pays a mere fraction?!?!? That sounds fair! It’s not like Gilead hasn’t more than made its initial investment in Truvada. It’s been on the market 15 years and a PrEP indication didn’t cost Gilead billions of dollars. The NIH did the initial studies for proof that Truvada would work for PrEP at a price tag of $50M that US taxpayers funded yet the rest of the world are the beneficiaries.

Contrary to what many believe the US is not the only country in the world whose citizens possess the means to overpay....errrrr pay for meds. My simple argument is charge the same damn price for the SAME DAMN DRUG as the rest of the DEVELOPED world. If Truvada or any med is $8/month in Australia then allow Americans to also pay $8/month. Drugs are wrongfully and egregiously overpriced to Americans because companies can fleece us and it’s that simple. For Truvada, we pay over $59 PER PILL while Australians pay roughly $0.27 PER PILL. Does that remotely seem fair???? That’s what AOC grilled O’Day on which he offered no justifiable, logical nor reasonable explanation. Instead he chose to correct her on a price tag of $1,780 compared to $2,000 versus $8. Who are the REAL idiots? The person paying over $59 per pill or the one paying $0.27 for that same pill?

This is proof of how those on the left truly feel. They are the least tolerant, most bigoted, hateful individuals in society. They never practice what they preach, but expect others to do so. Their inflated sense of superiority is why they got crushed in the 2016 election, and almost surely will again in 2020. They have no concept of truth (besides their own), and live in a bubble in their own world. They hate everything about the majority of us that ate happy and grateful we get to live in this, the best country in the world. Instead of getting angry at them, pity them because they live in misery every day.
