Is it true contract reps can't interview with client on direct hire positions?

A short answer: It depends...InVentiv is paid by the client company to have X number of reps making X number of calls .. here's the algebra of it: X - 1 rep (you) = InVentiv not being fully contract compliant , that makes them sad..(they hired you$, trained you$, bought an airplane ticket/hotel$ car$) and now you want to leave them.

Sure the hiring DM with other company may luv you (remember your current InVentiv DM = sad..now she'll have to write a report, close you out, more paperwork and ughh...interview to backfill your position - maybe even have to drive and stay overnight at the Embassy Suites to do it - shoot me she'll say)

There may even be contract language forbidding hiring of the contract rep or very tight guidelines that would have to be met (Now how do you think the hiring DM will feel about having to ask his boss and corporate to hire you..and fill out forms and worry about sticking his/her neck out, maybe not worth rocking the boat?? Let HR get some new candidates and it gives that DM some fall back in case the new hire is a dud ="gee, HR really got me a crummy pool of candidates but had to hire somebody..")

Bottom Line: It can happen , go for it good luck, smile and ask for the job!

I tied it & can speak to this. You are allowed to interview with & be hired by the client company. However....you MUST let your Contract DM know of your desire to interview prior to your interview because InVentiv has a contractual agreement with the Client Company to keep Reps in each territory. There's some kind of 20 day notice agreement between InVentiv & the Client Company, where your inVentiv DM can release you to work directly for the Client Company & the agreed upon release, doesn't penalize inventive for having a vacant territory. The last thing you want is to interview & put the client DM in a position where he/she looks like they are stealing you from the contract. To save their own ass, the client DM most likely will call your Contract DM to see if your Contract DM was aware you applied to & interviewed for the positon. That will only make you look sneaky.
