Serious question. This cannot go on indefinitely. If virus gets worse and lockdown goes through say June could there be layoffs as Amgen doesn’t need us?

Didn’t you see the email? 8 weeks.

It would cost way more through severance, unemployment plus the cost to rehire and train...never going to happen. We will always have a salesforce. Maybe smaller...but always have reps.

Also consider the bad PR as we lay-off people and continue to increase price of drugs...

this^. This will pass. Tons more expensive to lay off versus riding this out for 3-6 months. Included in the cost of rehiring includes sign on bonuses. Lay offs don’t add up until your access was shit before this. Even then lack of access was factored in for those geographies.

Can’t you read an email? Is says they’ve secured 8 weeks as of now and will extend as necessary. If their ultimate plan was to cut it off at 8 weeks they wouldn’t bother telling us.

That email was meant to put people at ease. If they were going to cut it off at 8 weeks they’d want us panicking and looking for other jobs now, maybe save them a severance.

Would you rather not get paid ?
Be careful what you ask. What you guess the job market is like in the "new reality" ?

For once I’m happy to be told I’m wrong on CP. I hope you are right.

Fingers crossed. 8 weeks also might be a nice period for HR to work overtime to figure out who they can send on their way.

Figuring out who the 'non-essential' staff are at each site might have given them a head start....

Well if you work at the headquarters there is a high probability that you got infected with COVID19 by someone who travelled to China for work related to Amgen’s precious shiny new asset BeiGene.
This was happening unrestricted for a long time before the outbreak became official.
So most of us can sue Amgen after we get the virus and they lay us off. Just saying.
Hit banker bob where it hurts $$$$$$$$$

Damn right. Both bobby and that corporate affairs SVP woman were sweating this way before the first case broke out in Ventura county.

Not a single person from the diligence team that traveled to China for the beigene deal in October of last year was infected. That would have predated the outbreak by the way.

You all are missing the point...and this has been posted on other threads...Amgen, nor any of the big, solvent., profitable bio/pharm companies are going to lay their sales forces off during this crisis as it would decimate their stock and the sector. BB is very smart at managing The Street's expectations and there is no way he wants to send a signal that commercial efforts are not needed to drive demand for our products when this all resolves. Yes there is a cost to laying people off and then rehiring or recruiting new people to backfill so that too comes into play, however this is more the optics to the investment community.

    Everyone relax...

I for one am not doing "nothing". We are being kept very busy with manager's calls and busywork to make himself look good to his manager. The leadership is terrible on this. Some managers are getting it and others want to look good to their manager.
