Can anyone offer advice on whether to contact HR if you feel you are in a hostile work environment with your manager? Thank you.

A hostile work invironment is against Bayer policies therefor it should be reported through compliance. It gets handled differently than going through HR. It also protects you from relatiation. Have honest and very good written documentation.

    Former HR here (not Bayer)
Unless an attorney represents you, you're screwed if you go through compliance or HR without legal representation. Hostile work as defined In U.S labor law ONLY exists when one's behavior within a workplace creates an environment that is difficult or uncomfortable for another person to work in due to discrimination including unwelcome comments or conduct based on gender, race, nationality, religion, disability, sexual orientation, age or other legally protected characteristics unreasonably interfere with an employee's work performance or create an intimidating or offensive work environment

See a labor attorney 1st, they can contact HR & Compliance in your behalf. That is probably all you will need them for.
It may cost some money but it will be totally worth the protection and action you will receive from HR.
Both HR & Compliance are hired to protect the corporation, not you.
You deserve a professional on your side too.

This is sage advice. If you have good sales, real documentation of communications from the hostile mgr. (VoiceMails included), then see an attorney BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. The fact that an attorney is involved will make Sneaky Dick Caldera's sneaky organization take this seriously and professionally.
