I am finding the month of December exceedingly difficult. What is the consensus out there?

I'm having fun listening to stories about two-bit company reps trying to give away everything they can to get knock-offs in the door. I thought they were supposed to be in sales.

I know what you mean. I do work for a major player. But here's the thing, Nobel is no different. Ask any specialist right now and Nobel is offering everything @ 40% off list price, as long as the account meets a certain quota by the end of the fiscal year. As you can imagine, these accounts then load up big time to meet that quota so they get the discount. It's Reaganomics. The rich get richer, and the average specialist gets the shaft.

So really, a company that has had no innovation for the past few years truly isn't different from ID, blue sky bio, etc...

I find more infiltration by MIS, Osstem and Hiossen in my area than Implant Direct. They seem to offering an even lower prices than ID the reps are more aggressive. All this going on in the GP market. I don't see any of these low end players in the specialist offices.

Spoken like a real loser. I can see who deserves the shaft here and it has nothing to do with economics.. The word is that the "shafters" at Straumann will have a strong December to cap off a record breaking Q4. Its no surprise that you won't be involved in it

The thing I can't understand is, why does anyone want to work for companies that give low-quality stuff away at the drop of a hat, or when they do sell something, it's for the lowest AWP ever seen and with a product even they know isn't the best in class? Are these people unable to find jobs anywhere with the legitimate leaders in innovation? My guess is they have no choice but to work for these third-tier GP-chasing outfits. Amplifying the problem further, the GP's are getting incomplete information from these lesser reps who were most likely denied employment, or released from the quality manufacturers. If anything, they need a much more well-rounded clinical discussion from the proven veterans of the industry, and they won't have that luxury with these folks.

ID has had significant innovation in the last year. For example, it came out with the GoDirect one-piece implant with a locator platform and when Zest complained, they came out with the GPS abutment System, a compatible overdenture attachment at 40% less than the major companies sell Locators for. They also launched a 3.2mmD implant and a 7mmD implant... Nobel has neither. Next is a 6mm long implant to go after Bicon's business. Lets not forget their new Zirconia Stock abutments on titanium bases at a fraction of the cost of custom abutments.... and on and on....

Please tell me who is the "legitimate leaders in innovation" and why you think so.

You must not work for a company that spends the largest percent of their revenue voluntarily researching and developing (probably ID, but you could be with any number of knock-offs), have a reputation for always leading in this area, and product that historically reflects that trust with the real surgical community worldwide. Good luck though.

"Significant innovation"???? Just because you come out with a new implant or system doesn't mean it is significant or an innovation. What research do you have to prove your claim? I'm guessing ZERO.

Ahem, back to the original question. Right now is one of the best times in years to be in this industry. As the economy claws back the market is poised for substantial growth. The real evolution, innovation and opportunity in the market is within the lab business and in providing a finished product to the dentist. The good news is that everyone will see lift in 2011/2012 and the market will continue to rapidly evolve with many opportunities being created from the lab segment.

I have been impressed with the speed at which ID is able to bring things to market. Unfortunately, the one piece GoDirect is a very bad idea that Niznick loves so much that he brought it out even after it was pointed out to him that locator abutments sometimes have to be replaced. This is where Niznick's greed and love for himself gets in the way of ethical behavior. As for the other products, they should at least be tested before being released which ID does not seem to do.

So what was Dr. Niznick's the response when the abutment is worn - back out the implant. If that is the correct thing to do for a damaged GoDirect abutment it doesn't seem like your implants are as good as you seem to think.

The month of December has been great, sales are up, leads for the new year are being generated and my commissions are through the roof, but then I left implant sales and went into capital equipment and I have never regretted the move.

The goDirect has internal threads and there are a variety of abutments available to duplicate ore change the platform. Niznick thought of everything in creating this 1-piece implant.

Why would you want to know? Why should I tell you? If I tell you I will be opening my self up to more competition in my field and I don't want that. I guess you will just have to do your own research.

If Niznick believes that "just backing out" the implant if there is abutment ware is a feasible alternative, he is out of touch with reality. So, in 5 years if the locator attachment wares out, just remove the fully integrated implant? Maybe trefine it out? Sure. Great way to build your practice.

Where did you learn to spell...it's WEAR; note WARE. Half of the people on this board are functional illiterates.

Moron, I guess you should go back to school too, since your sentence makes no sense. "its wear, NOTE ware." Explain to everyone, what "NOTE WEAR MEANS." By the way Einstein, ware, is spelled correctly, so it is not a typo, rather a misuse of the word. You fucking tool, go get your fucking shine box.
