In the quarterly earnings report it mentioned the $700 million set aside for the settlement. Nothing new than what was released previously. No idea why the settlement is taking so long but speculation on a formal settlement announcement is because they need the Feds need to approve the new CIA. It's going to happen and when that day comes the negative press will be overwhelming

It doesn't seem likely that they are going to pay a settlement of around $700 million? They cancelled the trial because they reached a settlement so of course they are going to pay. Exact amount TBD. There will be a large payout. The questions are how much and when. It's all documented on the court docket which is public access.

I'm not following. How can they settle if they cancelled the trial? It doesn't make any sense. There's nothing to settle if there is no trial

The Government and Relator are the Plaintiffs. Novartis is the defendant. The Judge set up a trial date. A few days prior to the trial date the plaintiffs and defendant came up with a settlement agreement to avoid a trial. The Judge agreed on the settlement agreement. Trial was cancelled. The plaintiffs settled because they were happy with the amount. The defendants probably settled because a jury could have awarded much more than the settlement amount. To answer your question: what was settled was the government complaint against Novartis. Google: Bilotta Novartis and click on courtlistener. This will show you the court docket.

I think the mean “...the negative press will be overwhelming.” doesn’t seem likely. We’ve since cleaned house and the charges are over a decade old. No ones going to care.

Case was dismissed due to a techicality

Exactly. At this point nobody really cares about the case and it will be able to slide right under the table for Novartis.
    Looks like Novartis wins again.

if the case was cancelled, then I don't think Novartis would still be carrying a reserve of $700 M.

The case was not cancelled nor dismissed, it was closed with the possibility of opening again if agreement not reached/agreed upon by both parties. At this point it’s assumed to be settled shortly, but the involved paperwork alone could hold up finalization/announcement for months.

Do you think a announcement will be made before the end of the year? Would it be an advantage for Novartis to settle before the end of the year tax wise?

Not True but I like your protection of the unethical company. It will be around $700 million and it will be on National news.

Incorrect. It has been settled. It is taking time to work out the corporate integrity agreement.
