I work at a clinic that refers many patients to lincare. Today we were faxed an oximetry order form on a patient so I asked a staff member to contact lincare to find out what this was about. Lincare told us it is their protocol to do a virtuox oximetry on every nebulizer patient. We asked how, this wasn't ordered as the patient doesn't need this test. Lincare responded that somebody ordered the test. We responded that no physician in our office ordered this test.

Is this unethical practice common throughout all lincares?

Absolutely......they walk into pulmonary offices with a list of their O2 patients and all but demand scripts for NIV's.

And then there is the company ethics as to how employees are treated. They are paid 2000 miles a month and required to put on double that amount. To top it off the company pays out at half the IRS rate for the miles they do pay. The lack of ethics starts at the top and waves on down to the bottom.
