Unless it's their medical device, pharma is a joke - $60k base or less.

The above post is not true. Base can be much higher than this based on experience

the base is average, but the bonus is the real kick in the ass. Some reps can make a killing while the majority are left getting the bare minimum or nothing at all.

Now before someone posts the good reps get paid and the bad lazy drug reps don't get shit because they suck etc... let me tell you this is 100% bullshit. I am and have currently been killing the majority of this sales force in numbers and I will tell you I barely do shit. I got lucky with my 2 pain specialists and a handful of A target pennsaid doctors knew about it before it came out and were literally writing before I showed up the 1st week. I work 10-2 and fake most my calls. I visit the few key doctors and do jack shit the rest of the week. My manager knows this, but doesnt care and why would he?

Join this company at your own risk. Talk to the reps on the team and find out what the territory looks like. Ask for numbers or at least previous reps % to goal, but be warned this company goes with the motto "there are 1000s of reps out there looking for jobs, if you don't take it someone else will kill for it"

    ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK

If the risk is you may not make bonus, I'll take it the 68000 base beats unemployment.

Or you can get a job that is worth your time. Covidien is home of the people that settle(I am guilty of this). Managers, reps and corporate office flunkies alike. The company is based around that mentality. "well covidien is better than nothing and I would rather have something than nothing so why not" The whole corporate culture is based around the fact that its either here or nothing. Great company to work for let me tell you. If I hear one more goofy mid level manager tell me there are 1000 people willing to take my job and I should be grateful im going to go apeshit. This company sucks.

There are many deserving people who deserve your job if you are not interested it. Medications to relieve pain and improve comfort is a worthy goal and a professional sales rep who takes on this role is highly valued at Covidien. Care for a banana?

Hey buddy guess what they all suck. Working period sucks. This job especially sucks but I do it cause it's easy and the money is good and no one bothers me. It's just like I like it. I work to live not live to work. I think I am awesome doing this or working at walmart I rock. This job just pays more.

covidien values numbers. they could give two shits if you buy into the corporate koolaid. they are just like any other pharma company out there. put out the illusion of a great company, but at the end of the day you are just a number. accept it and move on. you aren't making a difference in anyones life. drug reps are out dated and will be soon replaced. get ready.

I couldn't disagree more. Working does not suck.. Working when you get nothing out of it except a paycheck is what sucks, but you take it for what it is. There are PLENTY of jobs and professions out there where people make great money and actually enjoy what they do. If you can find something that you enjoy doing and make good money at it than it doesn't feel like work.

The problem with being a drug rep is you are looked at by society as a leech and a sleazy troll that gets paid by influencing a doctor on how to prescribe medicine for their patients. If you think you are helping doctors and their patients by being a walking talking advertisement for drug companies than you are fooling yourself. You have no say in what you want to sell or how you want to tell it. You are told here is product A go visit these doctors and increase their writing habits. It's 1 step away from ambulance chasing lawyers to be honest.

Doctors hate us and society is repulsed by us. The money and benefits are great, but hey who needs self respect. lol

Professional Sales representatives of drugs are highly valued educators of important information for physicians who order such medicine to improve the patients health or relieve pain. With so many different drug options, information by the pharma rep does help them with the key knowledge of the medication. Any company, esp public company, has Revenue and Income numbers to hit each quarter, but remember there would not be success with year over year growth without the sales rep hard work and dedication to their profession. May God bless the pharma sales rep and also Covidien for employing them.

Which is why Covidien has an unusually high turnover rate for reps and why the industry is shifting to strictly contract sales reps for when products are launched =D. I hope you had fun while it lasted. The good ol days are over. Enjoy misery.

Wow you must be either extremely new or sooooo far removed from the actual rep culture its scary. Not only are we DESPISED by doctors the rest of society sees us as bloodsuckers. Which we are. If we were paid to educate doctors than we wouldn't have goals, quotas or anything of that nature. Fact is we are walking talking sales pieces whos SOLE purpose is to increase the amount a doctor writes our medication. It doesn't matter if the doctor doesn't see better results or it costs more for his patients. Our job is numbers numbers numbers at all costs. Try and tell a DM or regional that you provided the doc with all the information he needs to improve the health over his patients and why your numbers aren't going up.

in the nicest way possible I am going to assume you have your head up your ass for the warmth. good luck.

So sorry you feel this way. Of course there is an objective as a pharma rep to increase sales of the drug. But in order to be effective, one has to spend time educating prescribing clinicians on the benefits/adverse reactions (fair balance) of these important medications.
Low self image you describe of yourself and poor self-esteem can be managed with medication and therapy which is apparently what you are suffering from and may benefit by. I suggest you either seek professional help or a different profession. Either way, may God bless the pharma sales representative and the good work these professionals bring with the goal of improving the health of others.

There is no magical man in the sky controlling the universe so anything you say or do is now valued as complete dog shit. Wow... If anyone needs some help its you who obviously suffers from delusions of grandeur. Congrats.

Medications that relieve pain and discomfort are important. Pharma reps play an important role in communicating these agents. Cant we all just get along?

there is nothing a pharma rep can do for a doc that he cant find in a medical journal or request from the company or website for that matter.. Oh wait the free lunch that they spend 5 minutes stuffing their faces through. There you go.

Can anyone give me some feed back regarding the Medical Supply Segment for Covidien? I am interviewing and would like to know what the avg. payout commission on top of the 44K Base? Can you tell me what the Fleet Car they use is? Any thoughts on Regional Manager Matt Larson? I know this is alot in one post but I would really appreciate any feedback. I do not want to make a big mistake!

Run! I know your question was for the med device side, but for pharma....RUN RUN RUN, this is the worst division! Poor management, back stabbing and unethical/illegal practices are far too common among the pharma management!
