Need advice getting hand tape paid for.

I have a friend who’s insurance will not reimburse for the tape that prevents his hands from splitting open. He has used the product for 3 days and it is already working. This cost him $800. How can he get his next rx reduced? Any assistance available? Other options? Thanks
