Emails being generated after hours from reps, managers and HQ personnel are very common - we all are working during the day and most of us are not in admin positions so admin had to happen sometime. Pay me now or pay me later -

The key here is you don't have to look or respond to emails after hours - get a clue to those who are just seeking a pay day form a lawsuit.

Makes me sick - our biggest problem in this nation - Lawyers and ridiculous lawsuits.

You're just a complete idiot. It's the overall culture YOU have created. 30 - 70 emails per day and you think that's just "normal". You are one sick executive. How many times have you been divorced asshole?

Exactly. The previous post says it is normal to create e-mails after five and before eight in the morning. Of course it is but not to this degree. If you are in the field from 8-5 and you have 80 e-mails to even look at then you are working overtime. The culture is so horrible.

That's why I left. On the road, get back to my home office, wrap up the days action items, read emails from the day, respond, try to have family time, go to bed with my phone on my nightstand fearing if I get an incoming email that required action and I didn't immediately reply I would be reprimanded and have a message waiting in my in box early the next morning demanding a response. Kelly, you are a god awful low and dirty manager. Thanks for the memories. You set the bar for me and quite a few others. And cost the company a ton of money. I'm so happy to be out.

I know this has been said over and over but the cause of this culture is the lack of leadership in the human resources department.

The HR department should definitely be bringing these issues to the attention of Mary and Ted. Maybe she has and they think it's "awesome" (the most over used word at SM) that people are afraid to take vacation or even a day off. They may like the fact their management people are working all hours of the day and night trying to see who's the last one is to send an email and then who sends the first one in the morning! Even Saturdays and especailly Sundays I get emails from my RSM about work issues that often require a response. The SAM are just as bad but I think that's because they feel like they have to try to keep up with the RSM! It has gotten way better now that HG is no longer in charge of the SAM's. She has to be the worst wife and mother to ever exist with the stupid hours she would be sending bullshit emails out. Can you imagine the schedule for the team that wins the contest? Ok guys. Good job winning the trip! We will be leaving for the team trip on Friday night at 7 pm and we will come back on Sunday morning. You know we can't miss one second of field time! You can have it! The last thing I want to do is spend 2 days of my free time with my RSM and my peers. No offense, but unless it's during work hours, the trip is offensive as hell and serves NO MOTIVATIONAL purpose. Another sign of how sick this management really is. Where are you HR?????????

There is no HR to speak of. They got rid of the head of HR a long time ago and basically promoted his secretary to. This is the reason that we have no corporate culture to speak of and high turnover. To run a good HR deparment and develop employees it takes an executive with at least some training. Not a payroll person. There is one manager who would never survive under the scrutiny of a true HR department.

A gig for a few years(I lasted 3), but you do get to a point of "burn out".

We probably are not eligible for the same overtime benefits that the pharmaceutical representatives have received. Pharmaceutical representatives have won based on the fact that they do not sell a product. We sell products so that would be an entirely different case.

Talk to anyone who does this job well and they will honestly tell you it's a "never off" job. The senior management is totally out of the mix. Joe and Tom couldn't do this job to save their life. Joe would be ranked last and Tom second to last and that would trade off month to month. Given the fact the most important business aspect of SM is taking orders for millions of dollars from customers that respect and trust the SC and RSM, I would like to know what Ted would say about eliminating Joe and Tom? What do they do to bring in sales? They couldn't present, train, sell, grow the base, or anything to grow sales. It's a top heavy model with people who don't even know the business! I guess this must be the ultimate example of the "buddy" system at work. Challenge: Don't take my word for it. Put Joe and Tom in charge of region in the middle of the pack. See what they can do. NOTHING just like what they do every day in the office. What a joke.
