Unfortunately that doesn’t only happen in New York. Seems to be a trend here.

There is something called ‘promotion criteria’ and nowhere in it is the requirement that they get your stamp of approval.

True enough. It's also true that simply because someone got promoted does not mean that they actually met the promotion criteria and are capable of doing the job they were promoted to.

What about "The Buddy System", fast tracked candidates, and good bullshitters? I've seen too many people "earn" promotions on the strength of those alone.

True enough. But those are the rules of the game. How it is and how it should be are not the same.

    Who got promoted?

Same thing happening in Michigan, our new leader is a professional bullshiter!

The promotion criteria is objective, not subjective. And, again, you liking them isn't part of the criteria. And, if you want to name a few 'fast tracked' people that were promoted, then put your money where your mouth is and say who they are. I'm pretty sure no one shares anyone else's historical information and whether or not they met the criteria with you. So again, this is going back to who you like and don't like. You have no idea who has actually met the criteria and who hasn't.

Not true. Career ladder positions are objective for example to become a senior dcs or dbm. But Promotional positions (since they have done away with the career tree) are based on core competencies which are highly subjective.

The one manager in Rochester has their own thread on cafe pharma and got promoted . Maybe meet criteria, other manager followed his boy jersey mike to novo and had a reputation of not working very hard af all . So there you go .

And you will never know the criteria because they keep changing it. It used to be pretty clear cut to know what you needed to be do to say become an executive dcs. Now it’s all muddied. They change it and our managers don’t even know what the criteria is anymore!

Neither do you. You've no idea how much subjectivity may or may not have influenced anyone's promotion.

To imply that it's all based upon totally objective criteria tells me that you're a koolaid drinking manager or a desperate manager wannabe.

There have been plenty of merit based promotions, but you shouldn't fool yourself into believing that good bullshitters or somebody's BFF have never been promoted based upon that "criteria". (Especially in such an insular industry like pharma where managers are notoriously known for hiring their best buddy from their former employer to join them at their new employer.)

Yep. What they say, and what they actually do are sometimes not the same thing. Always been that way and always will be.

Here's a prime example of pharma managers hiring their buddy away from their former employer:

Doug Langa, Dave Moore and Lou Pascarella (East ACL)

All three very well known to each other at their former employer - J & J.

What objective criteria do you suppose was used to make those hiring decisions? Sarcasm on: I mean Novo has complete and total access to J & J's promotion criteria, right? Sarcasm off

Sure. All a big conspiracy to hold you down, right? If you’d like to name even one person who received a promotion through ‘the buddy system’, go ahead and do it.

And, I’ve been involved in promotions. If you don’t meet the objective criteria, you aren’t in the discussion.

There are no objective criteria anymore. Career tree was chopped down years ago.

There’s a difference between the career tree and getting promoted in role. Criteria still exists to go from a DCS II to a SR. DCS, for example.

It depends on what you’re talking about. It’s very concrete to move from DCS 3 to senior. Now to move into leadership positions, that’s very subjective. No conspiracy theory here, it’s an absolute fact that many good people apply for AE and AFT positions. How do you think people are chosen for interviews? Here’s a hint: who you know matters! Decisions on who will be hired are generally known by all even before the interviews take place. In order to be promoted at Novo you must be well connected.

DMPE, you just posted that? Come on. Time for you to go somewhere else anyhow. This is the push go, go now. Be gone, clean slate. It is time little man. Spread your superman wings and fly...

And the other two, well I wont argue with you on that one either.
