That's okay, just move up your frequency. This will actually be a positive. The more they see you, they will be come used to you and trust you more. You can get more docs by cold calling for accts that don't have a Patterson acct.

It kind of cracks me up when in some of the other threads people complain about working 60+ hour work weeks and they are not selling anything and their accounts are dead or the competitors best - that doesn't really make sense to me. If they are not selling anything and their accounts won't talk to them, how do they work 60+ hours????? Maybe their time management just sucks!!!

People who have failed (or are failing) get on here and just blast the job and Patterson - While this job certainly isn't for everyone and it takes a LONG TIME to get it going, this isn't too bad a job. OK (but not great) money, lots of flexibility, etc. I've had better paying jobs where I had to work a lot harder and where the stress was much higher. It's all about perspective.

Agreed and I can't comprehend it. I hardly ever work Fridays, get done super early, even as a rep on base. I too barely have enough accts to get thru mon-thurs.

This place is a shit show! Plain and simple! Work your butt off trying to build your customer base for your "future" and you still make garbage income.

Go work at a commissioned retail store and you will make more money and have the same flexibility. Dental reps are garbage

"Go work at a commissioned retail store and you will make more money and have the same flexibility. Dental reps are garbage."

I'm not sure the reps are garbage, but the low-lofe scumbag dentist (lower case d) customers surely are.

You might as well save your breath about working in retail store (out-of-dentistry). These clods think that is below them. They are Dental Reps after all. Not me.

$ comm in retail. What could be better ? The mark stumbles in through the door to let you close them, no gas or car is consumed, no slugging it out in traffic to see some ungrateful a - hole or their dim bulb staff, regular hours, a little prospecting on the phone (theirs) to keep busy, nobody tracking you, no expense accounting whatsoever - did I mention regular hours, few, if any 'sales meetings' to waste your life on, -NO travel or airports for work. No stupid sales / branch mangement. No dentists. No dental staff.

    A Dream come true.

Enjoy that traffic Dental Reps. You are my hero.

Put that coffee down!! Coffees for closers only. Do you think I'm f-ing with you? I am not f-ing with you. I'm here from Patterson Corporate. And I'm here on a mission of mercy.

If you dont like it then leave, there's the door

We got at least 10 guys waiting to take your spot.

'Cause the good news is -- you're fired. The bad news is you've got, all you got, just one week to regain your jobs, starting today. Starting with today's calls. Oh, have I got your attention now? Good. 'Cause we're adding a little something to this quaters sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Golf Trip. Anyone want to see second prize? Second prize's a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired. You get the picture? You laughing now? You got leads. Patterson paid good money. Get their agreement to sell them! You can't close the leads you're given, you can't close shyt, you ARE shyt! Hit the bricks pal and beat it 'cause you are going out!!!

What's my name? F- YOU, that's my name!! You know why, Mister? 'Cause you drove a Prius to get here tonight, I drove an eighty thousand dollar BMW. That's my name!! And your name is "you're wanting." And you can't play in a man's game. You can't close them. Then go home and tell your wife your troubles. Because only one thing counts in this life! Get them to sign on the line which is dotted! You hear me,you fking maggots?

: A-B-C. A-always, B-be, C-closing. Always be closing! Always be closing!! A-I-D-A. Attention, interest, decision, action. Attention -- do I have your attention? Interest -- are you interested? I know you are because it's F or walk. You close or you hit the bricks! Decision -- have you made your decision for Christ?!! And action. A-I-D-A; get out there!! You got the prospects comin' in; you think they came in to get out of the rain? Guy doesn't walk on the lot unless he wants to buy. Sitting out there waiting to give you their money! Are you gonna take it? Are you man enough to take it?

I made $200,000 last year. How much you make? You see, pal, that's who I am. And you're nothing. Nice guy? I don't give a shyt. Good father? F you --go home and play with your kids!! You wanna work here? Close!! You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you c-sucker? You can't take this -- how can you take the abuse you get a docs office?! You don't like it -- leave. I can go out there today with the materials you got, and make $10,000 today. Today! In eight hours! Can you? Can you? Go and do likewise! A-I-D-A!! Get mad! You sons of bitches! Get mad!! You know what it takes to sell dental equipment & supplies? It takes brass balls.

Go and do likewise, gents. The money is out there, you pick it up,it's yours. You don't--I have no sympathy for you. You wanna go out on those calls today and close, close, it's yours. If not, you're going to be shining my shoes. Bunch of losers sitting around in a bar. "Oh yeah,I used to be a dental rep, it's a tough racket."

We got new new leads. These are the OmniCam leads. And to you, they're gold. And you don't get them. Why? Because to give them to you is just throwing them away. They're for closers. I'd wish you good luck but you wouldn't know what to do with it if you got it. And to answer your question, why am I here? I came here because Guggenheim & Misiak asked me to, they asked me for a favor. I said, the real favor, follow my advice and fire your fking ass because a loser is a loser.

it is truely funny that dental reps think so highly of themselves. More listerine this week 'Dr' boner? how about some floss, its on special?!

dental is a step below ,...well...... pretty much everything! I love that they tell people they are medical reps

Well if you sell other stuff like CEREC, Conebeam, lasers, digital x-ray, bone graft, surgical instruments and more then it you won't just be hocking cotton rolls and mouthwash.

Selling Cerec or Other high priced high margin equipment is a far cry from selling cotton rolls and gauze as the pp. suggests is the norm at Patterson. As much as the person derides dental sales, I can tell you selling technology in a highly competitive sophisticated market to an educated buyer is not anything like selling in the retail environment as you suggest. Unlikely selling at the mall will result in $5 or $7 million in annual sales - for one person. Unlikely selling at the mall will entrench you with customers who will buy for you for years to come. Unlikely the mall job will provide you and your family a lucrative Employee Stock Option Plan AND 401K plan.
You sound like a bitter, failed territory rep who is now actually working at a Macy's until 9pm every night, and on the weekends. Praying for that fifteen minute break every four hours so you can jump on your phone and go to Cafepharma to post about your old position, away from all those cameras on the sales floor looking at you as sell a $49 shirt.
I'll take my Patterson position for as long as they will have me. It's been great for me and my family and I have changed many lives in the dental arena and I'm cool with that.

Dental changes lives? Get real...... The products that you sell that could actually make a difference you dont sell because you are too busy chasing down your next plastic wrap order. this job was a complete joke. Stupid, mindless products, terrible call point(dentist are miserable and why its the #1 suicide related profession) and the company structure and pay was AWEFUL!! This place is the laughing stock of my sales career and I wouldnt even give it credit for getting me my next "REAL" medical gig.

As for the retail comment. Ask anyone who has been at a high end store( Nordy's, Sacs, etc...) there good reps work the same hours and make well over 6 figures, with repeat customers and referrals. My sister works at Nordtroms and makes more than any of you clowns selling this garbage with out the BS and expenses

Great. If you failed at dental sales and now work at the mall why do you even bother coming back to this board? I can tell you I live in one of the most expensive zip codes in th US and there is absolutely no one who owns a house around here who works at the mall or in retail.
I would say that your claim that it's typical to make six figures at a department store is laughable. If you don't think online shopping hasn't taken a toll on retail department store sales I'd suggest you do a little research on the subject. Technology and health care are the only two booming areas of the economy. Retail department store sales not even close. If you knew anything about Ptgerson you'd know that 40% of their revenue comes from technology sales not the gauze you apparently failed to sell. Good luck selling suits and ties that one wears anymore. Come back when you're 65 and let us know how satisfying your career turned out.

One thing for sure selling a pair of shoes or a scarf sure doesn't change any ones life. Technology and healthcare is a segment of the Economy that is booming. Retail sales? Not even close. You failed and that's too bad but to degrade those of us who are happy and making money at what you failed at is very short sighted.

I knew Patterson reps were dumb, but the last 2 posts take the cake. Did you even read it, or did you type as fast as you could because someone struck a nerve. The poster said sister worked at nordstrom and they are working at a "real" medical gig.

I am not part of those posts but I can tell you this. Patterson blows. I worked here for 4 years and it is mind numbing. The products are all boring and not that" life changing". I mean teeth are important but you are not selling stents or anything remotely related to truely life altering.

Speaking of internet sales and retail.... Doesnt really apply to the rich folks who love to have personal shoppers and be pampered. Any yes, Nordstroms sales associates make great money. Where do you think your disposable business is going? Smas club, costco, and whoesale internet sites. Your bread and butter is fading away and you do not sell enough of your " life changing" machines to make a difference.

Enjoy your $80k a year income in your very expensive zip code! I am sure you are buried in your house and full of cc debt trying to keep up with the " non retail" selling neighbors that you are trying to keep up with. " check back in" with us after you file for bankruptcy.

Correct me if my math is off but if 40% of pooderson's revenue is from technology sales, you account for maybe 3% of that which means it isnt that significant to your income. I suggest you read uo and role play! Now the other 60% is all of your day to day "gauze" and " cotton balls" sales. The things that are already starting to be bought online. The products that you must have or you make nothing. The products you beg and plead with everyone to order so that you can hit your pathetic $70k @ plan income level.

Get a clue! Face it, you know this job blows but you are stuck. You have either spent too much tim here trying to chase that golden carrot and other companies question your decision making, just not a good sales person, or you just are not smart enough to hold a clinical conversation and can't get past the phone screen from HR to get a real medical gig.

You make the mistake of assuming that everyone posting here is a territory rep, which is the position I assume you failed at. There are equipment specialists, CEREC Specialists Technology advisors and a whole bunch of managers and service people. You failed at one position at one branch and now deride the entire 3.5 billion company. Nordstrom maybe a dream job for you or your sister, but its definitely not a career that you'd be required to assist in the treatment of patients or advise highly educated doctors on how to use technology in a clinical setting. Pick out the right color tie and shirt is really not in the same league. But if you feel that is important that is OK.
Being a TR is not easy, thats cor sure. Its challenging, difficult sometimes boring but like many jobs requires years of hard work to be successful. I am not currently a TR, but was in the past and have all the respect in the world for them. Sales is not for everyone as was proven in your situation. Too many people feel they deserve or are owed an easy high paying position. In the real world not usually very easy.

First off- dentists are not doctors
Secondly- no rep is ever going to "assist" in any sort of case other than maybe telling someone how to apply the product, etc.... You can and will be sued if you are truly assisting without a license. Save you high and mighty ego.
Thirdly- you would last 6 months in my
World. You are a second tier dental rep/
Manager/ whatever you do. It's still low class dental sales and always will be a lower level sale. When you start making $250+ selling robots, come talk to me. Until then go pound sand and bring the receptionist and other Starbucks. I will go but another $3000 suit from my sister so I can look good when I get my next $1.5M PO!

"First off- dentists are not doctors"

    Well said.

    That about wraps it up.

Can you imagine having a true medical emergency, and the call goes out for 'Any doctors in the house' and some wimpy balding yenta with bad breath and yellow polyester pants shows up and states "I'm a doctor - a dentist".

That's where the nighmare ends and I wake up from the Bad Dream shaking and sweaty.

Ya, tell an oral surgeon with an MD after his name he isn't a doctor. Moron.
