Nearly 40 years here: various companies, changes/mergers; various job titles up and down the ladder.

Lots of years here. Still in the industry but not on the sales side anymore.

In the industry (sales) the better part of the past 20 yrs or so with a 5 yr stint working for a minor league baseball team and one year as a river guide.

Been doing it now for about twelve years. Prior to that, I have been all of the following (started working when I was fifteen): chef, coach, bartender, technical illustrator, business owner, writer, marketing director, fundraiser, art director, radio voice/host and this. I look at that list and wonder WTF. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. LOL

But the industry lives rent free inside your head , doesn't it?

You can't stay away and come back for more every day - LOL!

  10. Guess that whole "ignore him" thing wasn't able to take huh? I guess it is like rehabbing from drugs. You and your Somali Butt Pirate buddy Brokeback Chancre keep coming back for more every day ;)

Flag Avatar Guy is still running out the same man-love tinged nicknames that he wore out on the Poli-Board. I think he projects a bit too much.

There must be alot of rent free space in his head.

For those who do not believe this job requires selling: Who are the Pharma REPRESENTATIVEs or managers or otherwise employed in some aspect of the pharma industry?

  13. Don't take our word for it that it does not require sales, look at your fellow reps suing for overtime.

You are an extension of marketing.

There may have been a time when pharma reps could have credbly called themselves sales reps, but not today.

Hell, with managed care, you have very little control over what physicians write for any more and it will only get worse.

I am a bit different than most pharma reps in that I have actually sold pharmaceuticals on commission in the past. Most rewarding job I have ever had both monetarily and in terms of personal fulfillment. Would still be there if not for the company being sold and decimated.

Why does any of this bother you? Why do you hang out here like a puppy dog? I don't give a rat's us what you call it - marketing, schmarketing, I make a damn good 5 figure income spending 20 hours a week with people who are friends in a protected territory. I have a 401K; a nice lump sum comimg & great healthcare benefits the rest of my life. It just kills ya doesn't it?

  16. Wow you really are angry. LOL

This a free board puddin and I ain't goin anywhere so get used to it.

I am truly happy for your five figure income and your nice lump sum. You got in to the biz at the right time.

That same lifestyle is not going to be there for those of us who are considerably younger than you. Pointing out the realities of Pharma is not being hateful or jealous orvwhatever else you call it. Now you can disagree with me but several thousand threads on CP would seem to back me up.

You do seem awful defensive though. You got nuttin to prove to me puddin. Know I am your hero, but come on

Damn right you aren't going anywhere - you don't fit in anywhere and have no other experience. You'd give your left nut to be back in pharma and you know it. It's OK, we'll throw you a bone now & then.

  18. Why do you care so much what I think of pharma? Do you even bother reading what I type or do you just respond half cocked based on preconceived motions?

Pharma was very good to me. But, itbis clear that there is no real longterm opportunity there. Ifi were in your shoes, I would be hanging on too.

I am glad to be out of Pharma, but please stop taking it as a personal reflection on you. It is not

I sell. I am responsible for 2.8 million dollars in a class that's declining by 11 percent annually. I sell my butt off. There is nothing like intangilbles to make anyone appreciate getting to play with a cool device. I sell performance. I sell clinical evidence and a standard of care. I am a patient advocate. This is what a real pharma rep does in speciality/institutional care. Oh, and I do it without samples or patient education. It is one challenging gig.
