Amazon.com should partner with Patterson Companies, says Northcoast Northcoast said Amazon.com (AMZN) has a strong interest in entering the dental market and has spent time and resources attempting to build relationships with manufacturers and distributors to gain product procurement, which so far has been unsuccessful. The firm's analyst said Patterson (PDCO) is aggressively trying to reinvent how dental distribution will occur in the future and is building a new IT backbone, making huge investments in technical service. Northcoast said Patterson is on a path to disrupt the industry and could accelerate this effort with a partnership with Amazon. The firm continues to view Patterson as undervalued, with out without Amazon, and recommends investors build positions at this time.

One lone analyst. One. As much as the Dentsply/Sirona merger made no sense this one would make even less. They're whores when it comes to margin - Amazon. Patterson live on margin, without it Anderson and the rest wouldn't be millionaires... In the end does it really matter? Customers don't care they want price, Patterson wants to sell "value". Well bub, price is value wake up and smell the race to zero. There's a reason Amazon is as big as they are and Patterson is continuin to lose market share. Don't be fooled by the corporate blather, its a bloodbath in the field. Patterson is a dinosaur amazon may be the new kid but is a well fed kid...

How will PDCO disrupt the dental market? With what products? With what services? They just lost exclusivity on the only innovative offering they had. And they did not create it.

Can someone name a single innovative product that a dental dealer has created and successfully brought to market?

Dental dealers are dinosaurs. They will be dis-intermediated like travel agent's and Blockbuster video. There is no reason for dealer to be making a 30 to 40% margin for shipping boxes.

Amazon will destroy Henry Schein and Patterson as they should.

me thinks corporate (GM's) doth protest too much when questioned about the Amazon rumor/article. Albeit one analyst, the way Anderson and the rest are behaving it makes sense... Golden parachutes for all of them and a big fat shaft for the employees who made them all that money...

Once Amazon gets in the game, if they do, not a done thing yet, it will crush traditional dealers, but that's business. Wait for the other shoe to drop people, it's coming...

Too bad Anderson and Guggenheim have no clue what they're doing and have been allowed to continue doing nothing!

All those that think that Anderson, Misiak et al are all in a flutter about the potential Amazon deal, hell they probably contacted Amazon themselves vs the other way around. Seriously they'll make out like bandits! Golden Parachutes all around to the gang. The good ol boy netowrk has served them very well for a long time and they'll be even richer because of it. Now we'll see who is a good rep or isn't based on who gets a job with Schein and Benco etc when the axe falls...
