Can you give a brief overview explaining the POC market as opposed to general ultrasound market for someone not in the know? Sonosite throws around the "market share leader" phrase, but when told to a Siemens or other ultrasound rep they laugh and claim they're just a niche player. thanks!
No one would understand the word "niche" better than Siemens now that the Germans are a minor player in ultrasound. What a disaster. POC ultrasound essentially means ultrasound done by the non-traditional user. Think critical care physicians, surgeons, emergency medicine, anesthesiologists, etc... "Mainstream" ultrasound is radiology/vascular/cardiac imaging done in general not by physicians themselves, but by sonographers. SonoSite does dominate the POC market, though GE has mounted a strong challenge and other companies like Mindray, Analogic, etc... are making their mark, too.
Any additional input from others? How do these three stack up in 2019? GE, Philips, Mindray, etc... Ultrasound? Xray? Any particular part of the country or GPO contract "owned" by one company or the other?
