buy Implant Direct SWISH....more sizes, more surface area, no bone tap, one surgical kit, higher torque, and they are only $150. Why do people pay $400 for straumann????

    Know your history:

The Implant Industry Eventually Copied Dr. Niznick's Patented Internal Design: Dr. Niznick's internal, anti-rotational, screw-retained connection is acknowledged as being the most stable connection in the industry. Over the years, numerous implant manufacturers have attempted to copy this patented feature in one form or another. After ensuing litigation and/or arbitration, the following companies have either obtained licenses on the patent, or have been legally compelled to refrain from making products that infringe Dr. Niznick's U.S. Patent 4,960,381: Calcitek, Lifecore, 3i®, Steri-Oss, Straumann, Astra, Altetec, Park Dental, Sapkos Implant Company and Osteo-Implant Corporation (OIC®). A number of foreign companies that manufacture Screw-Vent clones have also been prevented from selling their products in the United States, such as four Israeli companies, Alpha Bio, Hi-Tech, MIS and Medigma, and the German company, Bego. Friadent and Straumann obtained licenses on Niznick's internal wrench-engaging patent in 2000. Steri-Oss developed the internal Tri-Lobe internal connection in 1998 and Nobel Biocare acquired Steri-Oss in 1999. Its ads featuring the Replace Select implant claimed that "Internal connection - what every dentist wants".

In 1999, Straumann Dental added an internal octagon to the conical connection of the ITI implant. Paragon responded by filing a patent litigation lawsuit and by developing an implant with a compatible platform and surgical protocol. Dr. Niznick introduced this new line of one-stage implants in 2000 and called it SwissPlusT. The standard SwissPlus implant features the basic design of the Straumann's ITI syn-Octa® implant, but with additional self-tapping features and a fixture mount that also serves as the transfer and abutment.

yes, i wish i could sell a $400 implant that only 60 year old surgeons will buy because they believe in Straumann's "research". If by "research" they mean by licensing patent's from Paragon/Implant Direct, then I guess they have done a stellar job. Good job on coming out with a tapered bone level....10 years too late.

Straumann....we buy our customers with marketing smoke and mirrors and sponsoring universities. Shhhh....don't tell anyone they invested into MegaGen and Neodent.....selling low priced implants, with no ITI research behind it...but hey....you didn't hear that from me.

Oh my gosh...Straumann is the only implant company that sponsors universities?! You've GOT to be kidding me! I thought all implant companies sponsored universities! Smoke and mirrors you say? You mean Implant Direct is the only honest and transparent implant company in the entire world?! AMAZING!!!! I am learning so much about Straumann through this website it's great! Thank all of you incredibly brilliant and informed geniuses and gifts to the dental implant industry! Thanks to you the evil implant companies will be brought to their knees! All of the great implant surgeons of the world will now realize the error of their ways!! THANK YOU!

i know it's mostly reps on here, but i'm actually a GP who places Swish....just saying...the price point is $150 instead of $400....seems like a no brainer doesn't it? Same failure rate if not better. Why place Straumann? Gordon Christensen called out the big implant companies for over charging. It's all marketing. Go with a GOOD value based implant and you will still have great results if you follow protocol.

If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. Give it up ID rep. By the way, would you slam Nobel the way you guys did back 3+ years ago? I mean, they were horrible according to you guys. Now what? I don't hear a peep. Careful with those stones when living in that glass house buddy.

"If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle." Are you related to Todd Zacker ?

You're a GP. That's the key here. I don't work for Straumann but Straumann could care less that you buy 50 implants from ID a year. They focus on huge volume specialists who are willing to pay the extra money for quality service and education and coverage of their referral base. That is what they care about, not saving $200/implant. Losing 1 A referral will cost them a hell of a lot more than that if they get mad about restoring a knock off implant like Swish and switch specialists.
