Deirdre didn't do anything to Stiefel. She really didn't get all that involved in the business. It goes back to lack of leadership from Bill.

So she bought a company for 3.4 billion dollars (which A.W. didn't even bother to fly to the US for) and then didn't get involved with it. One of you here is the moron now I have to figure out who? She wouldn't listen to Bill and then demoted him. I wonder what her scorecard looks like?

Definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result. GSK didnt have the know-how to make it in Derm back in the 90's and they dont have the know-how now. The person who approved the purchase of Stiefel should be fired.

Stiefel was a cash cow when the Stiefel brothers owned the business. It's business model was simplistic, yet incredibly effective. Develop niche derm products that will produce $5-8 M in U.S. revenue, but will globally exceed $40M in revenue. No generic company will attempt to produce a generic version and it's to small of a product to have a significant competitor. Now have 20 products that fit this profile and you have a $800M company. Ad in a combo product like DUAC and your off to HOLLYWOOD to buy Connetics and Barrier and hit the Jackpot with a GSK purchase for $3.8BILLION.

Here's the issue, THE GSK model isn't built for a company like Stiefel. The economies of scale will never match. GSK should have never touched Stiefel after they bought the business. Leave it alone as a free standing business and enjoy the cash revenue it produces every year.

The final issue is AW. He's an arrogant, pompous know it all and he doesn't listen to the people who understand the business. It took the Stiefel family from 1847 to 2008 to build the business into an almost $1 Billion dollar business. Werner Stiefel would be devastated if he saw his company today.

GSK management is a joke......second time they failed in derm. Really need to rethink your style and bonus plan. No one else jumped onto your IC bandwagon....in reality you only did it to satisfy the OIG.

Completely agree! The new GSK leaders are so arrogrant and they have no clue about the derm business. The doctors have no respect for JC. He is a failing miserably.

I feel for those of you that were swallowed up by the GSK purchase. I have been with GSK for over 12 years and I can say when the purchase of Stiefel came along I thought wow - good purchase with nearly $1 bil a year in business. Well GSK pissed it away again with this purchase just as we have Sirutis, and other purchases. I agree with what many posts have stated in that Diedre has been a disaster and AW not much better.

GSK may not know the market but Bill H, Darren C, Vin C, Mike D, SS, Alfonso, and product managers did. The management team lost over 1 billion in three years and many employees lost their jobs.
