People in So Carolina do now. They didn't want Federal dollars before and voted against helping NJ for Hurricane Sandy but now they have their little hands out :)

Climate change had nothing to do with what happened here. SC has always had threats of hurricanes. And that Federal money was in the works BEFORE the paperwork had even begun. Done with a phone call. Our roads are so crappy, that they would have failed with a lot less water. One thing mentioned is that this is the worst in 1000 years. Who the hell was around to record this kind of stuff 1000 years ago?

You live on the Ocean. You have to expect this shit. My Brother has a place in Ft. Meyers. I would never buy there, but he knows the risk.

Interesting thing about this particular issue is that most of the damage was done inland...like about 100 miles inland. Roads are literally disintegrating because red clay can't hold water and it's washing away under the asphalt/concrete. Dams are failing all over the state, especially in the midlands area.

"A study earlier this year from Climate Central reported that 40 of the 48 contiguous states have recorded an uptick in heavy rain events in the past several decades (though South Carolina was not one of the 40)."
I have hitched my wagon to man made Global Warming or Climate Change. You have shown two incidents. G/W or C/C is a study years in the making. Thanks.

I was talking with a science guy this afternoon discussing the events of the past week; i.e., roads and bridges literally crumbling and washing away. Out of the 63 dams in the hardest hit areas of the state, 13 have failed. That's a high percentage when you think about it....also, there is a huge fault that runs through the middle of the state and that includes Columbia....it's not only red clay, but a helluva lot of sand in the soil from the midlands down to the coast. He thinks all this could possibly start an earthquake....and that's REALLY gonna be devastating. This was worse than Hugo back in the 90's.

And this is another topic that needs to be addressed - our crumbling infrastructure. No one wants to see taxes raised - especially me but when I was younger and Eisenhower kicked off our Interstate Hwy system, the income taxes on the wealthy were up as high as 90%. No one ppanicked, we prospered and built a really good system. I dunno, maybe it's time to revisit that idea. Or else we can just do like Ben Carson says, outrun Tsunamis, floods, earthquakes and volcanos.

Uncle Ben Carson thinks the world is only 6,000 years old - That's a scary thought.

According to the airman, here's some more folly from South America:
The next summer promises to be one of the most unbearable of all time in Brazil, with temperatures easily exceeding 40 ° C for several days in places traditionally warmer, as Rio de Janeiro, Piauí and Tocantins. According to meteorologists, the thermometers can register heat until 4 ° C above average. And before a spring that has had days of intense heat in some regions, many people already preparing for the worst. Is that the first time you register a unique combination: the rise in average temperature of the planet by global warming bill and a very intense El Niño.According to experts, the world is already 0,8ºC warmer because of global warming caused by human action. And all indications are that 2015 will be the warmest year on record. To make matters worse, the forecast for this year is that we have a super El Niño, or even an El Niño monster, as has already been named; of the most intense ever recorded. The phenomenon is related to the warming of the South Pacific waters and, in general, the rise in global temperatures. According to the World Meteorological Organization, El Niño this year could become one of the four hottest of the last 65 years

Thank you ! And if Trump picks him for VP, we're all saved - except, whoa!

It would be nice to see him pick someone with a brain but then - he does need that 'real black' vote?

He is an idiot savant - Kind of like a 'Rain Man' or Chauncey Gardner character - He is a brilliant surgeon, but not much else going on between his ears.
