Bayer has succeeded in beating the last of the old Berlex culture out of the organization, whether this is good or bad, time will tell. ( At this time I think it sucks).
The POA was all about the goals and future direction of Bayer with little regard for the people it takes to get there. Sure Bayer recognizes top sales performers (once a year); but the majority of employees are treated like disposable robots all year.
Even the raw emotion that defined past awards ceremonies was stomped out by the impersonal Bayer machine. National Leadership Winners not speaking upon receipt of the award? Doesn't Bayer realize the emotional speeches of the past helped people in the audience realize just how important this award is and what it means to achieve it? I think JR did his best to convey this; but how is this better conveyed, by a few words from top management or from the emotionally charged words of a winner? When will Bayer come to understand that motivation is tied to emotion, not spreadsheets and not just a trip or some prize. Motivated employees care, work harder, are more productive, and more pleasant to be around. Isn't it worthwhile to try to key in on the employee and maybe keep a glimmer of the old Berlex culture alive?

There is still a very good chance Berlex will come back.

Yeah...sure....It will make a comeback...as a company that sells "HOPE" to suckers and people unable to cut from the past and move on...accepting applications now from soul less sales reps and managers willing to sell to former co-workers the "IDEA" that Berlex will make a comeback.

Update:With Bayer consolidating into Mount Olive our former HQ will be available for lease / or purchase in the near future...dust off the rowboat.
