not if Applied Medical has anything to say about it. They're changing healthcare! (Not necessarily for the better)

Sounds familiar. Does it have auto-bipolar?

    Blah blah bla....

how is this different than force triad?

None really... Same hardware under different packaging. Just to get more money from the customers. We need to continue that we are very innovative and come out with new products on regular basis.

Explain exactly what you mean by "under different packaging" and "just to get money from the customers".

I am reserving judgement until after the training meeting. I really hope that FT10 offers a tangible clinical performance upgrade over Triad. Otherwise, what is the benefit to customers who have significant capital invested in Force Triads?

Significant lig speed and wave form improvement. Smaller footprint for coming MDT robot mount. Lower cost than Triad.

Sweet! Surgeons love to learn about waveforms.

What's different about the packaging of the new FT10 vs. the Force Triad?

Ft10 has a 25 gauge cardboard box vs. a 10 gauge cardboard box for triad.

The FT10 box will be much smaller,

It's just a refresh of the ForceTriad. A little faster seal, a little better auto bipolar, a little smaller. Anything said about the "waveforms" or "intelligence" is just marketing hype.

No existing FT customer would buy one of these.

Integration with the robot is BS - the robot team doesn't talk to anyone. Best case, this will sit on the robot cart and a scrub nurse will have to plug robot cables into it. Don't get your hopes up for a pretty integration...

Why go to all the work then? There's got to be a significant benefit or improvement?

The reason is because it has a write to chip technology so it will write to each ligasure plugged into it so they could never be reprocessed. This is Covidiens answer to reprocessing

They're going to retrofit Triads for that, as well...

Why go through all the work? Who knows. This project started as a replacement for ForceFX, then turned into this. Been going on for something like 7 years? They can't figure out what they want to make or why they should make it.

So who is "driving" the down-gauging of the packaging for this new generator? Is it marketing, purchasing, or engineering? Are any of the Medtronic folks 'on board' with this decision? Or has the decision been perhaps 'made in a vacuum'?

Remember when Triad was first launched (way back when) it had fragility issues in the distribution chain because the marketing folks said for packaging 'smaller was better.'
