My guess is they will begin selling off several businesses as a result of the acquisition and integration

Spine, if they could find a buyer.

RMS is a boat anchor wrapped around MDTs neck. 980 vent years late, $150 mil project, buggy, on commercial hold, lots of recall. Lawyers are circling in the water.

Never. Spine is the cash cow for that entire company.

    Respiratory for sure.
FDA has pulled the trigger for Consent decree. 980 is a nightmare.

Kendall brands disposables MOST definitely (and very possibly to a Chinese buyer too). I see Spine up on the chopping block - maybe Stryker, Zimmer (or similar) will absorb or scoop them up ? RMS is a good question as it is certainly a 'poison pill' in Medtronic's now supersized portfolio.

They will never sell of Spine.. too much revenue for the company. Zimmer can't get out of its own way and Stryker is a joke.

If Omar thinks selling spine will raise the stock price- and his bonus- he will sell it.

Spine is the engine that drives the Navigation business. Not going to happen. Think at least two steps ahead.

What do the margins look like for this business? What about the growth rates? The spine market is very, very crowded.

Spine is an area where profit margins have dropped across the industry. It's not a cash cow like it once was. Definitely still the number one spine company, but more overhead and logistics to this division than any other. Zimmer just bought Biomet and has a decent spine line. Stryker is the only large company I'd imagine buying MSB. Perhaps it could be spun off...

Every MDT spine competitor has instruments that are compatible with O Arm. MDT's nav sales reps use this as a selling point.

That helps many spinal competitors to sell more of their implants for nav procedures, gain market shares, and grow at the expense of the big guys and with minimal investments. And we know the rest of the story and what will happen next...next...and next....

Zimmer is a huge threat now after the acquisition of Biomet.

Respiratory or min vents. Biz is complete shitshow. Look at the new ventilator thread in Covidien forum. Interesting read and lot of truth. People called it. Why Omar purchased given the history is a mystery.
