I have been at Lilly for 1 year and I have noticed a few things as a rep...

Why do managers at Lilly value projects over everything else? Why do managers care more about champ roles than sales numbers? Why is the side work valued over the performance?

At this point I feel I should change my title from Senior Sales Representative to Project Manager. My DM keeps asking for more and more out of me on leadership opportunities. No matter what I do it's not good enough even though my numbers are solid. I'm all for leadership but DAMN, chill out Beeotch!! Because of these concerns I have I am currently interviewing with other companies. Good Bye!

Just curious... what division are you in? I want to know if it is like this across Lilly?

This is the lilly way. Its not about numbers. Promotions are based on leadership projects that managers come up with to get reps promoted. Its been like this at lilly for years across all divisions.

It is bizarre and completely accurate. I've observed the same since joining.

I have been at Lilly for 7 years. I have never once seen a rep get promoted because of their champ role. Champ roles are the biggest waste of time. The only reason they are around is so the dm can do less work.

What you described is the same experience I have in Dermatology. I've been with Lilly just over 1 year and its all about champ roles, and extra projects, not just about sales results and can you get 100% to goal or better. It's too bad the bonus plan is so low paying as well. Can't believe a company this big pays such small bonuses.

That’s not exactly true. The dm of the rep on the champ conference call will tell the dm of the rep, how the rep has “performed” while on the call. Were they a leader, follower, or did they have contrary opinions. This will enter into the end of year review and certainly the dm meeting which seeks to promote.
Bottom line; if you are not involved , contribute and seek to add value, then don’t be a champ.
Be a champ where you know the subject matter and can dominate.

Let me ask you this. Are contrary opinions seen as a good or bad thing?

Champ roles went away then they came back cuz managers wanted them back. The amount of extra unnecessary work done with no added value for the customer or the company is silly. The promotion system at this company is crazy. I’ve heard for others that have been around a lot longer it was never as bad as it is now. Also heard from those that have been in different business units diabetes is the worst.

Disagree. Ask anyone who is or has been part of the OBU. It is all special crap and bs projects. All da and night. Worst part is when the bosses decide that one dumb idea is better than the other, we somehow are all held accountable for it. And it is another metric that we can be dinged for. My advice, do bullshit and work half days on fridays. Our leaders are!
