    Hi,
This might be too serious for this lively forum. But I am artist in Connecticut who uses pharma promotional items, especially clocks, office supplies, posters, drug samples, and whatever else I can get my hands on, in my artwork. I use them in collages, assemblages (sculptures using a variety of objects), and paintings.

I can and do buy some of this stuff on ebay, but this can end up really adding up, and would love to find someone willing to donate or trade lots of this delightful swag - the more the better. I also know there has been an industry-wide decrease in these kind of promo items, but figure there must still be some out there. Am happy to accept donations, or also happy to trade art - paintings, collages, etc. in return.

Ideally if you are near Connecticut I can come to you to exchange; but I can cover shipping too if you are from afar. Would appreciate anyone who could help or could direct me to someone who might be able to...thanks very much!
    J

I doubt you will get too many bites on your request. 1) Once a representative has been let go or a product pulled from promotion, the promotional material must be destroyed. To not do so is a violation of FDA and corporate policy; 2) Representatives that have been let go cannot and should not have ANY promotional pieces and especially not samples. This could land a past representative in prison. 3) To ship something would disclose someone in violation of both 1 and 2 and subject that person to criminal, civil and other forms of legal action, none of which I think anyone here is willing to risk just to "help" your artistic cause. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I should add that handing out some promotional material to the general public is also a violation as well as handing out material without a P.I.

Should we send them to your P.O. Box in Rockville, Maryland?

While this may be true, I seriously doubt those of us who have pens, post it notes, etc. really give a crap about it being in violation of FDA. Hell, I had cases of post it notes left over and give them out all the time, along with the pens. I still have a few thousand pens. But I'm not going to give them to anybody I don't know.

    What's in Rockville, MD?

The FDA's investigative office used to be there, the ones that if you were at a convention, would come up and engage you and try to get you to promote off label. My company used to tell us, that anyone with a badge that said Rockville, Maryland was to get a regurgitation of the visual aid.

    Good one Libs -

When I left sales, I kept all my pads, pens and trinkets as well. I only gave to immediate family and still have a stash. I'd never give any of those items out to anyone. GG is right about the legalities.

I only kept one item, a Viagra wall clock. I got it from a Pfizer rep when they came out with the product. I think I'll hang it back on the wall. Thanks for the reminder.

You need a clock on the wall to remind you to take your Viagra?

Where in the World did you ever hear this? I have boxes of old promos from years past. Sounds to me like you worked for a company that told you this bunch of crap along with it is LAW that you must witness signatures?

By the way, what the hell is "delightful swag" ?

From Dictionary.com - a swaying or lurching movement
This may be applied to 2 women together in bed.

And their are also the elusive great pharma pens. My wife stil has some from her old company, the really fat ones, that last forever and write great. You could actually put a slot on here for "Greatest Pharma Giveaways." Sarah, Dr. Dave has about run his course. Why not give this one a try. Most of us that are left, are old-fucks.

Libs, are you trying to get rid of Dr. Dave?

Nah, you could actually get rid of a few others. Don't mean to pick on Dr. Dave, but my guess is that he's what we call a "spreader."

Not yet an old fuck, so what does "spreader" mean when referring to Dr. Dave?

Amusing replies. Probably not going to work out, but thanks for the interesting comments...

Splits his business. Writes a little for each rep. I used to have a whore-doc that would actually keep a count. What a great doctor.

Gotcha. Some reps would be dead in the water without the spreaders.

Since the real swag is gone, maybe you could do some really cool art with the educational anatomical models that we can still giveaway.

Maybe a sculpture made of vertebrae, prostates, breasts, knees, etc. Dali would have rocked that shit.
