LEXINGTON, Mass., Oct. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Imprivata®, the healthcare IT security company, today announced a new collaboration with ICU Medical Inc., a leader in the development, manufacture, and sale of innovative medical products used in infusion therapy and critical care applications, to enhance the security of medical devices. Working together, Imprivata and ICU Medical will develop solutions to identify users and improve physical security and cybersecurity for network-connected infusion pumps.

The Imprivata and ICU Medical collaboration focuses on developing solutions designed to address security vulnerabilities for network-connected medical devices and the applications with which they exchange information. By enabling fast, secure authentication when accessing patient information, and performing transactional workflows on medical devices and the applications through which they operate, this integrated technology will enhance security and auditing capabilities for medical devices, while at the same time focus on improving clinician efficiency and patient safety.

“Cybersecurity and user authentication continue to be at the forefront of conversations with our healthcare customers. Innovating new solutions with Imprivata reinforces our commitment to higher levels of security and greater visibility for our integrated infusion systems and hospital partners,” said Matthew Hutchings, ICU Medical’s senior director of marketing and innovation for IV Systems.

“Infusion pumps are rapidly increasing in their level of integration on hospital networks as EHR integration is becoming the standard of care. In today’s Internet of Medical Things environment, security threats can come from many sources,” said Wes Wright, Chief Technology Officer at Imprivata.  “We’re excited to work closely with ICU Medical to innovate new ways to lock down these connected devices and authenticate users with security profiles for the benefit of our customers and hospital partners.”
