Can we please look at new metrics . Ask performing people in EVERY division what is making them successful. There is a bigger picture here please look at it ! Novartis prides itself on “unbossed” and a culture that “listens”. So far from reality. Motivation is in the crapper, management you are going backward. Please bring back someone who gives a Sh*t and wants to listen and hear, not jus these what they want to hear.

Yes, I wonder how they can pull off that “Unbossed” tag line with a straight face, while simultaneously scrutinizing every metric they can dream up to create another report. I feel more “bossed” at Novartis than I have at any previous company.

All nonsense to manipulate you and make you think that they care. Don’t trust any of them.

its never was good, and it never will be.
just get over the idea that its a good job.
its not. just take their money and do the least amount of work possible while looking busy. that is the key to working in the corporate world. good luck.

    To the OP,

Please explain to me what is the same in this world as it was 5 to 10 years ago?

You really had the need to post a new thread about this?? Really??

OP gets it. When they started rolling out the computers in full force, micromanagement went to another level of evil.
Its not a sales job anymore.
It hasn't been a sales job in probably 20 years now.
Just move on, if you an sell. Real estate, insurance, finance, independent sales people make much more and with more autonomy.
Corporate sales people are terrible at selling and in life. Stay away from them for the most part. They lack work ethic and creativity.
My message is mostly for younger people that are ambitious. Find a good mentor and rock and roll. You will absolutely not find anyone worth looking up to in the pharmaceutical/medical/biotech field, and that includes doctors as well.

All 100% true and accurate.Take the money and run. It’s an evil business filled with disingenuous people with their own agenda.

"Unbossed" is in the eye of the beholder. Sounds good for sure, great PR.

I don't know if it is funny, scarry, or sad, that a lot of people believed that crap from the beginning.

It’s just sad at this point. So much stress and chaos, ABLs grasping for control. NJ is so out of touch with the field.

Being a rep in the 90's was so enjoyable. Everything changed in the early 2000's now not only does the job suck it's an embarrassment to even admit you are a Pharma Rep. It's more like low level customer service. Glad I'm long gone!!

Yeah I'm embarrassed that I made over 200k last year working maybe 10 hours a week. Joke is on anyone that laughs at me.

Got that right! Milk it while you can. The job requires and teaches ZERO skill sets and is not marketable on your resume at all anymore. Literally is a liability on a resume. The job will make your brain go mush and dealing w/ the Managers even worse. But w/ that kind of money and time input who cares!!! The job used to be a status symbol now it's more like Larry the Cable guy... LOL Still glad I'm long gone!!

HAHA Got that right!! You don't even need a college degree to do this job, I can teach a monkey to do this job!! Milk it while you can until they figure out how stupid this is..

SO what it's not the same job as years ago. The money is great, especially for a "soft sell." Consider the salary & perks and hours of actual work. This job is a home run as long as you don't think about it too much. Basically, you are paid to go around an be an ambassador and make nice.

If it was actually go around and make nice that would be great but you have these ABL running around telling you it's sales when it's anything but. Then you have the crazy Matrix Train that's unattainable. But the biggest travesty is when you need to get another job or you realize your life is a waste in Pharma (which will happen) you have NO Marketable skills. ZERO. However if that's your deal in about 10 years or when ever you get kicked to the curb you will understand.

It’s not the same job, of course. Medicine has evolved, IDN’s and ACO’s dominate the landscape while physicians continue their role as soldiers to larger organizations. Our impact is minimal at best, unless you’re in rare disease or true account based management where you can occasionally access those at the top, allowing the ability for our agenda to be rolled out to their people. NVS continues to deploy antiquated, busy-work driven tactics that make ZERO difference in outcomes for our business and how we access customers. Take a look around and we quickly see the career politicians.. I mean “leaders” who have made it their mission to do nothing but satisfy a metric, protect their paychecks, and at the same time lose complete touch with the reality of how medicine has changed. We hear time and time again their understanding of this, but in reality, if they were tasked with doing our jobs, most would fail miserably. Most of those at NVS and other big pharma organizations have endured circumstance driven success. Meaning, being in the right territory or part of the country that has favorable formulary, or maybe a large IDN that has already decided to add one of our products to their formulary, ultimately to be rolled out to their people. Those situations where many reps have walked in to, reaped the rewards of and gladly accepted the credit as if they had anything to do with it. We do know this is false most, if not all of the time. Then, these are the same people that have been allowed to quickly rise through the ranks, creating policy for the rest of the field, even though they know they’ve never actually accomplished these very steps themselves. It’s a vicious, superficial cycle that continues to plague our industry. So, either move to a very small company where you have nowhere to hide, or continue playing the game, do your jobs, and give the appearance that we’re effective. We make a pretty solid paycheck here to play the game of charades..

Magnificent response that sums up the foundation of this incredible charade known as Pharma Sales. We are paid very well to keep up this false narrative of effectiveness. Take the money and run.

Well stated. Let’s just say we have a few of these on the hospital side that fit this criteria and have risen through the ranks. Will not ever call people out by name but our division knows who these jokers are
