    I am white.
    I am a manager.
I am not in commercial but don't want to narrow it down any further.
I have a diverse team including 2 Asian Americans.
Because we are currently remote, I don't see them every day like before.

Is it racist if I reach out to them just to check on them given the tragedy in Colorado? I hope they are ok.

Are you serious? Based on names of perpetrator and victims alone, this appears to be a middle eastern man (probably Muslim extremist) killing mostly non-Asian people so why the hell do you need to contact your Asian staff? I mean are you just practicing your virtue signaling on CP or are you seriously so confused as a white man that you feel you need HR to give you the go-ahead before you talk to your “minority staff” about something probably not relevant to them or are you just stupid? You might also want to ask HR which bathroom to use before you take a leak if we ever get back to the office if you’re that confused.

Of course it is! If you are white then anything you do is racist.

Even though the Colorado shooter was an Arab from Syria, TO will spin this as more white guilt against a minority population. Expect multiple emails and and a whole set a training.

Never forget, Amgen's preferred diversity vendor has a best selling book that "documents" American problems and solely the result of "white male mediocrity".

    Yes, you are guilty.

If only he had an Irish sounding name, the police would have shot him. - Amgen HR

So true. I’m actually embarrassed for the people that are pushing this DI&B crap every five minutes. I thought all the ERG focus years ago was bad but it’s insane now. Every damn day I get some Yammer bullshit from that HR puff, or more training, or an invitation to another crying session to share my experiences. It’s fucking embarrassing. It’s also a distraction so we forget that the leadership team is 99% white. Maybe, if they really want to have an impact, they should all step down and hire minority replacements so we can all just STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. I mean that’s real action, not just words right?

And that first poster on this thread, are you serious? I had to read it three times to find the sarcasm but it wasn’t there. He seriously needed help deciding what to do. I mean if the societal goal is to neuter white men so badly that they’re afraid to make simple social decisions then I think you’ve already succeeded with this guy.

Do like many people are and leave this shitty woke company. Other companies aren't doing this. Amgen is lost. Pathetic organization with a garbage pipeline and crap marketed products.

If you have to ask this question on CP you are a shitty manager.

I reached out to my Boulder friends because they’re from the area. Not anything else.

Look at these idiots on this thread lol. There was a white male who murdered a handful of Asian Americans in Georgia. This has nothing to do with the Boulder shooting.

I appreciate this question was asked. NO - it is not racist to reach out to your Asian staff. That’s allyship. Offering emotional support is a key aspect of management. One of my direct reports is Asian, and she was spit on recently by a guy who shouted Kung flu at her in Orange County. Coming to the table with authenticity to learn more about their experiences is worth the effort.

I agree with this completely, but I think it says something about Amgen culture or society that a white male that manages people (so presumably not dumb) is so afraid of being called a racist even though his intentions are good that he can’t come to the obvious conclusion you did so he reaches out to CP for guidance. I mean how pitiful and sad is that?

no it is not and if you can’t make that decision on your own, then you have no business managing people. White fragility is real lol !!

You are mixing up Boulder with Atlanta, number one. Secondly regardless of ethnicity it is never a bad idea to reach out to your direct reports who work from home to see how they are doing from time to time. Don’t you have regular 1:1s with them? Obviously a fake post. Trying hard to make it sound like as a white male, you are some sort of a victim. Get a life.
