abandon in IBU on the Enbrel side.

WTF? Do we even care about making calls? I realize my territory is so small I can cover it in half a day, but I need to make calls!

Last week we did 9 calls M-F.

    9 F'ing calls.

Do you losers understand what that does to shots on goal?

No matter how many clown-bots on the team send their praises on how transformational the call was, it wasn't.

    unique to Enbrel in IBU

    Oncology doesn't do this nonsense.
We don't do it in Neuro Nation.
I hear they don't do it with Otezla.

This is a known and unique problem with Enbrel.

I won't say what BU I'm in, but agree with the OP. We have useless calls with Directors who talk about kiddos, gardening, shopping, and other non-business crap. All in an effort to get our team warm and fuzzy. Ain't gonna work, a football jock with a large social life isn't going to connect with a flute playing hermit, won't happen.

If there isn't ample business content to host a call, simply don't have one.

Managers who believe taking us out of the field for numerous calls per week now that we are opening back up are the same types who believe that Veeva Engage sells.

What's actually happening is that the DMs just won't tell her that Engage doesn't sell because she wants a measurable to show Jeff she is "winning".

The amount of busy work they give us that prevents us from actually selling is insane. We are “sales reps” we were hired to SELL a product/products not to sit behind a desk and push papers. Unfortunately Amgen will end up losing high performers due to the current culture.

Just be very careful and play the long game. If you think the Celgene culture of performance will last, you are sadly mistaken. We've absorbed and crushed the souls of that type before.

It may be fun to point out how activity oriented we are. Hell, I'll admit it, we are.

But come calibration this fall, the people who will get the best ratings, the biggest LTI grants, and the most nods for promotion will not be the performers, but those that master activity. Those that best play the game.

Bottom line, we are a culture that rewards activity and even more so, that rewards complimenting your boss and at least one level above.

    +1

complimenting your manager is how you get ahead here. just tell them the teleconference you did at 11am for their convenience was compelling, transformational, and really resonated with you. use agile if you can.

agree with the posts on this thread. Amgen has way too many conference calls and web ex calls.

NuBu has as many as other division.

So now on our weekly conference calls our managers want us to pull over on the road so we can be seen and see the slides ..hmmm just another way for Amgen to keep us from doing our job , which is to sell in case anyone forgot what our job title is

It's not gonna change. Kave may try, but the power of doing teleconferences and everyone thanking each other for how impactful they are is a force to be reckoned with. Inertia always wins.

Agreed. It's so out of control. Sometimes twice a week calls. They are either during the lunch hour or in the middle of the afternoon which makes us all want to go home to get on the call.

    This craziness needs to stop.

I hope those who are tired of all of these calls put this in their recent survey to Amgen. I know many did, but probably not enough wrote it in.

We need to sell and not be sitting at home wasting time doing the same stuff over and over again.
