    Get your resumes ready.

Merck has signed a deal with Ernst and Young to take over the PMO entirely. Merck thinks hiring Erst and Young to do this will save them money. This is across all of Merck. I have yet to see companies like Ernst and Young save any company money. Good luck with that,

Financial analysts, coordinators and program/project are going to be axed. About a week ago the financial coordinators within the PMO were notified that Ernst and Young will be taking over their jobs. They will be gone in about a month.

Than over the next few months it will be program and project managers. They are separating people into financial project managers and delivery project managers. The difference is that financial project managers spend all their time screwing around with budgets and doing little to no actual project management while the delivery project managers actually run the project.

Anyone who is a financial project manager is toast. It remains to be seen what will happen to the delivery project managers.

Frankly I am not surprised at this as the PMO at Merck has devolved into an extension of finance with PMs spending an enormous amount of time working on budgets and obsessing about costs without actually delivering any real value.

Let’s be honest the accountants couldn’t do any worse than the Merck staff.
