Just joined J&J two years ago. I was told that when you apply for another internal J&J position, your manager is automatically notified. Is this correct? Conflicting info.

Never ever tell your boss!! Best to just get the job on your own will never contact your boss that’ll violate the privacy policy keep it extremely quiet don’t even tell anybody that you work with the hiring manager in a new job and believe everything you say all you need to do is give your notice to your boss when you get the new job good luck and congratulations

That is BS. Before you interview, your boss needs to be notified. So what? You should be admired for being ambitious.

When trying to move from one operating company to another your current manager has to release you (not to interview you but for you to accept a job if offered). I've known candidates that have been offered positions at other operating companies and their current manager would not release them. The employee literally had to resign from one JNJ company and get hired from the other.

The best bet is to have a dialogue with your current manager. If the new position at another operating company will help you expand and develop your skills he/she should be supportive.

If the reason you are looking at a new position is because of a poor relationship with your current manager, the above scenario may be the best to expect. Simple answer is you don't have to inform your current manager if you want to interview for a position with another operating company.
