In February of 2021, Zimmer Biomet revealed the next stage of its evolution – by announcing it would spin off its spine and dental businesses.

That newly created company would go on to be named ZimVie – Zim taken from Zimmer Biomet and Vie coming from the French word for Life. A few days after the spinoff was announced Vafa Jamali was tapped to be the CEO of the company, which would compete in the growing $20 billion global dental and spine markets.

Zimmer Biomet has named its planned dental and spines spinout, ZimVie. The company also named the leadership team for the new company, which will officially be spun out by mid-2022.

Zimmer Biomet moved ahead with its ongoing transformation on Friday by announcing its intention to spin off its spine and dental businesses.

The spin-off will create a new publicly traded company and will allow Warsaw, IN-based Zimmer Biomet to focus on high-growth segments of the orthopedics market, including knees, hips, S.E.T. (sports medicine, extremities, and trauma), and CMFT (craniomaxillofacial and thoracic). The spin-off transaction is expected to close around mid-2022.
