Layoffs in IT???

Yes!! Layoffs in North America IT again! This week. Approximately 20 people will get the boot, plus others who don't 'fit' into new roles being created using the remaining headcount (really just renaming of current jobs). Those open positions are quickly being filled by 'old friends' of JT using his guidelines of 'putting the right people in the right jobs'.

Is there a hiring freeze for 2014 in GSK? Had a couple of good Director interviews but each round took 6 weeks to hear back - finally, I withdrew in disgust: I feel HR and the hiring manager are not being open about prospects and hiring timing ... they did come back with surprisingly low salaries citing 'budget concerns' ... any inside insight?

Dude, GSK IT has been laying people off for the last two years. They are about to start yet another round Three either in 4Q 2014 or 1Q 2015 (to be decided by 10/2014). These layoffs have cut people in all IT departments as high as SVP and as low as entry level paper pusher.

They have let many, many people go, there is an Operational Outsourcing, sorry, Right Sourcing, sorry, Lean Way of Working contract under negotiation with various global vendors right now.

Good luck getting hired. Who knows you might just get hired in time to be laid off!
