Consolidation

R&D IS to merge with Commercial IS. Really don't see where there's fat to cut, except in the Director/VP area.

That won't happen though, it'll be the workers that suffer.

There's plenty of overlap, and there has been for quite some time. I heard the magic number is somewhere around 70 people getting cut.

Get ready for more work, same pay!

The waves of layoffs are just the beginning. The merging of R&D and Commercial is a minor step. They're doing what they can to appear lean but there is so much fat. The whole BRM model is a joke. If they are looking for fat, look into those groups. Essentially these guys are order takers for Corp IT.

The main thing to be incredibly worried about is the acquisition. IT in Irvine will get hammered across the board.

You're right, but that's not how it'll go down.

The BRMs who typically don't know squat about IT will prevail, as their job is to sound impressive, and that pleases our CIO, who also knows squat about IT and tries to sound impressive using her limited English vocabulary.

Any folk that actually do work for a living, and know what they're talking about should be worried. There's someone in India that can fuck stuff up for much less cash.

... that was a cheap shot "limited English vocabulary".

Any CIO/VP of IT should be measured on his/her ability to properly invest in information systems and information technology. Looking at the vast amount of redundancy between the groups, it's no wonder this consolidation hadn't happened sooner.

I, for one, cannot wait to see the exodus of employees who were hoping to be impacted, but weren't.

The exodus won't happen, there's still the Valeant/Actavis/Salix/Whoever deal which will provide "impact".

Last I checked, people who were hoping for the package and were disappointed have started to give notice. But hey, good luck with that whole "head in the sand" thing. It's worked out for Allergan IT for this long ...
